The highlights reel would probably beg to differ.

Allen owned Mondays for a couple years. All anyone talked about was what Allen did (good or bad).

Mate,  not a school kid - just a dude with a woodcutters beard , a flannel and a couple of long necks of Melbourne bitter in the wilds of Tasmania thinking about these things ? -

Tom Flower was in a very big shadow.

Perhaps, but having the gun brother of the above more than makes up for the lesser abilities of the sibling.

In the case if Brian Stynes, was it more the case that he returned to Ireland?  From what I can recall, he was still quite a gun Galic player when he went back and went alright for us, which suggests he could have been a pretty good VFL/AFL player had he stuck with it?  Or am I confusing Brian for someone else of the Irish experiment?

I think time will tell if we have the better of the Frost brothers.

Jack had a great first season and has faded almost into oblivion.  Sam has some great attributes and I'd almost say he is ahead at this point, but still has some way to go development wise and to make a permanent spot in the side for himself.

Touche, Hemmingway and Uncle Bitter! If you check the demon wiki stats Tom Flower was a much better footballer than was given credit. In todays game an outside mid with pace and beautiful skills. Could kick a goal AND in fact , If I recall he kicked 5 in a game vs the Filth when the filth were good!

I think Carl Ditterich didn't take to him and although almost a Filth player ( Tommy Hafey) wanted him he ended up in the VFA played in a premiership or two then retired! Pity, with a considered approach would have been an excellent 100 game plus player .Typical Melbourne nurturing!

Should not be mentioned on this site, nor should Greg Healy!

And Ernest, your little known brother, Frivilous, didn't write much of note.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
