In some previous games this season ive lamented that i felt some games , there for the winning, were possibly not because not only were some players not doing their jobs but perhaps Goody wasn't tweaking, adjusting the game ( sufficiently )to get us there. A coach can only do so much , but that has to be done.

I got a sense on Sunday he's getting better. It was a dogs breakfast of a game and apologies to dogs.

Somehow from amongst this garbage a recasting of the runes was required. I thought Goody did well here.

I had thought before the game that the halfback line was the 'pivot' . I thought this is where the halt/rebound would instigate. 

As all over the ground it was just messy. The moving of Vince and Lewis into the midfield fray livened things up. Viney lifted. Things happened.

Hurley was really spoiling our party. Kudos..a lone hand ( or two ) constantly using his height/ reach and sticky hands to great effect. Goody's instructions....  get the ball on the deck...get ball.

Whether an instruction or a result of now better commanding the guts we didn't search as far and wide coming to goal.Still used the flanks but avoided the pockets. Goals piled on.

I thought this was percievably good gameday coaching.

I think in the current injury environment it is very difficult to tell how good a coach he is, over the last two games I doubt any other coach could have done any better.

So far IMO he has copped well but the next month of no ruckmen and most of the injured good players still some weeks off return will provide some answers.

I agree with your assessment bb. Sunday was the first time that we've seen his tactical nous shine through, and the fact that he out coached a veteran in Woosha in the second half bodes well for the future. I do think Vince should have been in the middle from the start of the season, but can understand that he felt restricted in that part of the ground with Hibberd injured and then Lewis suspended. Hope Vince stays in the guts for the rest of the season.

Goodwin HAS a plan b.

I think his coaching has stacked up well. We could easily be 6-0 if it wasn't for mid game injuries and inaccuracy (factors out of his control).

Some of his selections have been questionable but otherwise I think he's doing a good job so far.

he gets a big tick for Sundays game. he had the midfield playing more defensively knowing they had the dominant ruckman and had everyone leaping to get the ball to ground for the crumbers.

Watching the replay what I did notice is that we were very clean taking the ball. kicking was atrocious at times but we didn't fumble much which usually leads to opposition goals. and blokes like Melksham and JKH whilst being bagged on here, kept the pressure on which created turnovers.

For a welcome change, Goody and the team made changes and adapted to the changing flow (well, maybe flow is an inappropriate word for the horrendous first half) of the situation.  Well done.

What does it take for a coach to get some credit for christ sakes. 6 games in and he alone hasn't got the effort out of the 'boys for 4 quarters..ergo he is a shite coach? I think there are such unrealistic expectations for the poor bastard - luckily Demonland operates in a vacuum.

For the record I think he is going very well - don't get me wrong.  I think his selections and in game moves have been proactive.

We need to be able to play 4 quarters though.

Think it's more a reflection of the heightened expectations of Demon fans and associated frustration when they lose. There are always reasons for the loss and the buck stops with the coach.

I just get frustrated when obvious decisions such as playing Pedersen in the team and moving Vince to the midfield are ignored.

Was Pedersen in such an obvious decision though? Off-season surgery meant he was a bit behind. Once fit, he played at Casey, dominated there, and is now in the team.

The min Max went down and with Jesse out it was a slam dunk lay down misere....to everyone bar the selection panel it seems.

His performance Sunday bears out our frustration.

So are you saying that you would have Pedersen as a ruckman over Spencer? Because that is the role he played, he didn't replace Jesse.

Not at all.. not in place of Spencer. He should have been selected as a fwd relieving in the ruck. That was a requirement at the time and selection got it wrong by not acknowledging it.

Pedersen played two Casey games after an interrupted pre season. Against the Dockers they played Weideman, who got a bad corkie early. They obviously felt he could offer something, and Pedo could do with another run or two at Casey.

They then brought in Smith against the Tigers. I assume they thought he could offer more up forward with his all round game. Obviously he got injured early, as did Spencer. There is no way you can plan for situations like that. 

The coaches obviously feel that Watts is the best person to play the relief ruck role, because he has been doing that for quite a while now. 

If you were selecting, which game would you have brought him back for?

Gawn got injured, Weideman was giving little. What position does Pedersen normally play,.... Forward, relief ruck . Should have been Spencer in for Gawn,  Pedersen for Weideman it was a no brainer
