Hypothetical if Fyge choose the Dees - what eould be Freos asking price?

If the Judd deal is any indication

1st rd pick and Salem?

Kent and 2 first rounders?

Dare i say straight swap for Hogan?

It does eound great having Fyfe in the red and blue but the devil is in the detail.... no puns intended

Not quite close to the end, but a contract of many years at $1.5m a year is an acl away from being a disaster.

No player in the AFL salary cap system is worth $1.5million IMO.

Let them have him.

You would need a minimum $1.5 million per year offer to even considering going to play for St.Failure

Tom Boyd went all right in the 2016 GF win

Boyd was hired as a messiah but before and after the GF he did and has done bugger all. He was lucky he went to a club that was unrated but now recognised as a superbly coached club with everyone contributing exceptionally well all season except him. He was like Ted Hopkins or that Morton brother from the Swans who played their one and only blinder in a GF.

I have no idea.

Under what circumstances can the owning club trade a free agent.

It does but his and Fyfe's circumstances will be completely different. It don't come down to a trade.

I reckon there's only a couple of situations in which you bring players to clubs. If you're the Saints and have heaps of early picks, then that makes sense. You could clutter your midfield up with more and more names that aren't making the 22 in an exciting and up and coming team. Or put them together and get a brownlow medallist if, and I stress if, you're threatening for a flag. Bernie's situation was good too, for a basket case club. Get a mature leader at 28 for the right price and give him 22 games a year to show the kids what it takes.

Only other situation is on a dire-needs basis. After Croad, the Hawks were flag contenders for years. They got Gibson, Burgoyne, Frawley all as mature age defenders and it paid off. That's actually genuinely how I see us. The core future superstars we already have in Oliver, Petracca and Hogan get the big money deals, then after that you go find a Steven May type to support the MacDonald brothers. To get a Fyfe... He is an unbelievable player, but he pushes out other good players and we still have a need in one area. In an ideal world, get Lever... but we'd need to spend our first rounder this year and next to get it done. Personally, I'd give that for the kid. But since it's not happening, it's all about augmenting the list in smaller ways and focussing on KEEPING players. Others may want to see more, but I see the premiership leading 10-12 players in the side already. You can get more journeymen every year who don't hold the fates of your team in their hands. That's what tradings for.

I'd love to take a refresher in the FA rules UH, unfortunately I have much better things to do. Cleaning my gutters comes to mind. You seem to have a good grasp on the rules though, Perhaps you can give us all a run down, opposed to just being condescending.

I do understand a RFA can be traded. But it won't happen with Fyfe. Feel free to post more thrilling hypotheticals though.

if Fyfe want to go to St.Kilda as RFA then Freo could let him go and they'll get the pick after their 1st rounder as compensation,  Freo are 11th at the moment so that means they'd get pick 9.

Alternatively if they match the Saints bid then the Saints would have to trade for him.  They hold the Hawks 1st rounder (IMO around pick 6) and their own 1st rounder (IMO around pick 10).  They specifically traded for the Hawks 1st rounder - wonder why?

If Fyfe leaves Freo for St.Kilda then it will most likely be a trade.

Fyfe won't leave the Dockers, they have a decent midfield when firing and McCarthy will be a good forward with some more support (I don't rate Kersten, he's a one man potato farm). Griffin Logue Connor Blakey, Balic and Brady Grey are decent young players already showing good signs in the wins they've had this year.

Obviously they're in a rebuild and it's questionable whether that group can win a flag but I don't think the Dockers are miles behind the Saints at the moment, and tbh I don't see the current Saints list having the ceiling to win a flag either. Throw in his history with injuries and I reckon he'll stay at Freo.

That Dockers side isn't taking Fyfe to a flag. Logue, Blakey, Balic, Grey and Tucker are all unproven. There is nothing to suggest any of them will be anything more than role players at the moment. Freo have recently lost Pav, Barlow and McPharlin, will lose Sandilands and McPharlin in the next couple of years. Freo are not playing for a flag anytime soon - not in Fyfe's career I would not think. He would be silly to stay. Would need 1.5 million minimum to stay with a club he knows won't take him to premiership success.

Unproven? So are most of our young players, we haven't played finals any time recently and we still have trouble closing out winnable games and this Dockers outfit beat us on our home ground within the past month. I think our ceiling is higher, but the guys I mentioned go alright and have played some decent footy this year. I honestly don't see much of a difference between them and Saints

Cannot understand a player of Fyfe's ilk being at all interested in going to St Kilda. St Kilda will not win a flag with their current list. It lacks deep enough midfield talent and has been propped up by a brilliant Riewoldt and Montagna for years. Even their other gun players like Stevens are getting on now. By the time they're ready to challenge, Stevens will be in the veteran category as well.

I can't see Fyfe leaving and if he's coming to Melbourne, it'll be to a club with a strong midfield that has a flag chance in the next 2-3 years.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
