Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

At first I thought it was a bit 50/50 but it makes sense, puts pressure on spots and who knows, he may be better than all of them. His goalkicking is also much sharper than Weids and as you say Hogan could end up at Freo, Weids could flop or go to Coll and Pedersen will most likely retire. I'm all for it. At old pick 2 turned into a late second round makes sense.

I'll be very annoyed if Hogan decides in the next two years he's going to go home and we had the chance to get Schache for next to nothing now. Same with Tom Lynch by the middle of next year if he decides he wants to go back to Vic and Hogan then tells us the following year he wants to go home.  I really hope that by the middle of next year he signs up for 5 years and puts end to the endless speculation. Same with T Mac. Hope he doesn't carry on as a leader of the Club and hold off till the end of the year again. It's a downer for everyone else.

I think the AFL should put a date mid season for contract renewals, for eg by the end of round 11 a player must sign up if he intends to stay on. By then players, managers, clubs know how they're tracking for that year anyway and takes pressure off both player and club. If they don't re-sign then they're on the way out and clubs can then plan. I don't know, something like that I reckon may work. As it is, players are bending clubs over.

So what happens if they don't sign by that date? They have to leave? Wouldn't work. What if a player simply hasn't made up there mind yet but 6 weeks later they have.

If you  were to rate them now I’d actually go:

  1. Lever
  2. Marchbank
  3. Petracca
  4. Miller
  5. Maynard

The maturity of Miller and Maynard as youngsters in (relatively) struggling sides has been super impressive

And people who are down on Trac shouldn’t be - his consistency and approach to his football has, I think, been terrific

Pretty good assessment DA I agree with your top 3 but would have

4. De Goey

5. Weller

I see a fair bit of Freo living over here and think they have both Weller and Blakely coming nicely. Blakely is going to be an inside beast. De Goey has some X factor about him and a decent player who will become a goal kicking mid

That's a good idea, much better then the mess it is at the moment. If not your idea then something like it, surly the AFL could come up with something much better?

Do tell......?

All i will say is the club (despite many deelanders liking to think are amateurish specifically over the Watts scenario) are very forward thinking and post Neeld are are extremely professional.

Contingency plans are in place for both options. They may not bare fruit but all options are being explored

It's great that we've got Lever to the club.  I rated him as a junior and he's shown himself to be a quality player ever since.  However, I can't agree with paying that much to get the trade done.  We paid more for Lever than Geelong paid for Dangerfield.  That's a damn poor deal in my book.

Lever will start his first season with the Dees having just turned 22.

Dangerfield started his first season with the Cats about to turn 26.

Dangerfield was also a free agent so Cats we really doing Crows a favour by trading.

Watching Crows reel to celebrate Lever's 50 milestone has me satisfied with deal. 21 year old 195 cm elite intercept marker and spoiler, plays long ie marks/spoils with arms fully extended. Has nice competitive edge. Our defence will love playing alongside Jake.

Was discussing the loss of Frawley and compensation pick value (They think he wasn't worth 3) and realised that Lever coming to us really is closure on the whole sorry saga of losing an AA FB and having to play 3 years without one and not being able to negate key forwards.

It took you 3 years to get over Frawley?

Took most 3 minutes.

Be careful using the adjective AA.  It puts Rance and Frawley on an equal pedestal.

How does that work, one is a multiple AA whilst the other put one really good season together.

It's like comparing Dean Cox to Jamar

It doesn't put them on an equal pedestal at all, Rance is a "4 time AA FB" and we lost an AA FB. The Frawley topic only came about due to a discussion over Motlops compensation. 3 years pertains to the time we've spent without a full back (Or elite defender) that fits into our planning going forward (ie not Dunn) and only now have we addressed a deficiency that our list management have said was our key priority. Has nothing to do with not getting over losing Frawley, just a realisation that his leaving did actually set us back which doesn't seem to be discussed around these days.

Dunn was better than Frawley, nevertheless, neither were within their prime to hold a spot today, to me that is:..

Good point, would've made the difference in 2017...

Can you show me one new article where an industry person has indicated we paid under's?

I can show you a heap of them that say we paid overs and that's because we did.

Also listened to SOS this morning talking about how he expects less trade value for uncontracted players than contracted players like Gibbs.

Frawley is a very good player and was instrumental in the Hawks winning the 2015 flag - he had a tremendous final 3 finals when he was played in his correct position as key back.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
