Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The debate/discussion between Binman and ProDee on how the Lever trade would impact our team is one of the best exchanges I've read on Demonland for some time.  I didn't get involved then as they presented their views in a way that extra commentary was unnecessary.

The weekend provided more fuzziness to any potential trade.

  • Frost played an outstanding game and showed some fairly unique footy attributed for one player.  Extreme athleticism and excellent footy skills.  There were no glaring footy errors that I recall.
  • Tommy Mac showed a level of competence and confidence forward that suggest maybe a permanent forward role is possible.
  • Lever was outstanding after quarter time for Adelaide.  What team wouldn't take him if he wanted to come.

I don't shudder the way ProD does when any of our tall backs have the ball.  I think Oscar's disposal is much better than represented here and whilst Frost doesn't have huge finesse he very effective and improving quickly.

But having said that I love Lever but if he wanted to come it would be great but expensive.  If he wants to come to Melbourne city (as with Fyfe and Kelly) it's difficult to understand why we wouldn't be a very desirable destination for all the reasons we know.

ProD's suggestion is we attract Lever and Z Jones and use Frost as a trade plus draft picks and other garnish if appropriate.  But given the recent performance of our talls and assuming that is maintained and improved (T Mac is new to forward play and Oscar and Frost are improve almost by the game) how important is Lever?  Would the incremental benefit be worth the cost or should we look to use what we have to attract (say) Kelly? IMO he would provide what we don't have whereas Lever is just incrementally better.

Did the weekends performances change anyone's views?

Not mine, although I'm with you in that Oscar and Frosty don't have me worried every time the ball goes in their direction.  Both make the odd mistake, but then who doesn't?  They are acquitting themselves well and will only get better.

We do need more insurance for our backline though, so I'm not against another tall backman, but is that one Lever?  I'd love him at the club but not sure we will offer an amount that will trump other clubs.

It won't be only money that attracts him.  That will play a part but it will be one of the last things discussed.  If he wants to come the money will take care of itself.

If we play every game till the end like we have the past several weeks, high profile players will be climbing over each other to come to us, just like the Hawks of the past decade.

Would love Lever, but must admit that every improved performance by O-Mac and Frost is turning my eyes elsewhere.

We are almost at the point of using our war chest, and trading away our early draft picks for a shot at a flag.

Reckon this might be the year to pull the trade trigger.

My biggest concern on Lever is he has limited exposed form on a first or even second key forward but everyone is guessing that's what he becomes. My view is he would have played a similar role to Smith or Wagner in our side on the weekend not that of Oscar or Frost. With lets assume Hogan and T-Mac forward this week he will likely play on neither and get Watts or Hannan/Trac. Even when Talia and Hartigan are playing they still prefer Kelly to play the third tall defender role to free Lever up. He is a jet at the role he plays and would love him at MFC I just don't think it is for either of the two key posts (granted he could play there if required particularly as he matures).

I would love to bring in Lever at the right price, he looks like being a star of the game for a decade, but I hate ProDee's solution of trading Frost. I think his athleticism is exceptional and he can provide both great run from defence and great pressure. At 23 and only 50 odd AFL games, he is already a very good AFL player and could develop even further.

I think a backline including a developed Oscar McDonald, Frost and Lever would be very strong. (With Tom McDonald as a forward/swingman.) However, personally I think our greatest need is outside class and pace in the midfield.

If we don't have a defence of Tom, Oscar, Frost and Lever then I wouldn't trade Frost either.  Remember, I posted before Tom morphed into Peter Hudson.

Tom Rehn from SA media said yesterday on SEN that he feels 6 weeks ago he was a certainty to stay now he's saying it's a real chance he might be gettable.. Interesting Lever says he isn't in any hurry to sign anything before finals, the message has changed from waiting for the CBA to now it's a life decision.. Interesting how it plays out

Isn't Frost out of contract at the end of the year?

I'm not enjoying the discussion on trading Frost. I love that we're building a galvanised group, and I very much see Frost as part of that core (and O Mac, gee he's come on much quicker than I thought). Let's not pick away at the foundations to get to the promise of a flag; this group could just about do it themselves given time.

That said, the recruitment team are solid gold, so whatever they reckon is fine by me.

They played the audio of that interview on 360 and I'd put my hard earned on him leaving.

Was being far too coy for mine.

SEN also said that Hawks, Demons and another were right into Lever but Jason McCartney recruiting manager and Lever are good mates and the respective families are friends. The Crows will want suitable compensation. Re Frost he wanted to return to Melbourne where his family are cannot see him wanting to go interstate, nor would I want him to go as I obviously rate him much better than many others on here.

I wonder if The Weid has come up as a possible trade with a pick in exchange for Lever?

The emergence of TMac as a forward,  along with Hoges and Watts, means he is almost surplus to requirements, and yes I know we signed him up earlier this year,  but we know a contract is just a but if paperwork these days.

I'd hate Frost to be on the table,  his upside is enormous in my opinion.

Lever would be a great get!

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
