Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't disagree with that Clint but his kicking is not the flawless quality that was talked about pre season.

"Good kick" is a relative term OD, and relative to the rest, Lewis is a good kick. That doesn't mean he doesn't stuff it up sometimes, and I'm not sure I recall anyone described it as a flawless quality of his.

Read some of the old training session reports Nasher he was constancy described as never missing a target.

Perhaps they real thing is a bit harder than dancing with your sister.

Is it my imagination or did the crowd look three quarters Dees supporters

You are totally correct in that comment OD. I thought the same myself and looking over into the Southern stand, there were heaps of dees fans there which isn't normally the case. The fewer blues fans made a lot of noise, especially when they were moaning about the umpiring.

There was a hell of a noise when Garlett and Jones kicked those last quarter goals. I have not heard that volume at the G for a long time.

Did anyone see that kick at half forward from Watts in the last quarter that found Hogan?

It almost felt as if he was the only one who saw Hogan running into that space. Everyone around me, including myself expected him to bomb it inside 50 or down the line. Was absolutely sublime.

How good was Garlett run down tackle. Was Aaron Davey like.

And did anyone see Nev Jetta absolutely smoke Kruezer with a huge hip and shouldee. Kruezer went down like a sack of spuds!

superb.  two of many many great efforts all day.  Petracca thinks he is the strongest player in the game and plays like it.  Viney had a fifty fifty contested ball at some point and went in clean with a hip and smashed some carlton sod three feet through the air.

our hardness is something I havent witnessed in a melbourne side for a long time, if ever  .  Hogan, Oliver, Brayshaw, Kent, Lewis, Melksham, Jones, even the Weed, as underdeveloped as he is showed fierce aggression yesterday.  Happy days.

Here's a full breakdown of all the teams in a lot of key stats.

In some, there's not a lot of difference between teams, and they are skewed by a small number of players. For example, Melbourne has 58 games of finals experience, but 23 of them belong to Jordan Lewis. Without him we'd down on the bottom with Brisbane.

Melbourne is down towards the bottom of the list for average age, average games, average goals, average finals and players with more than 100 games. It points towards another year or two of development to get into premiership contention, provided there's enough skill on the list.

Interesting reading.

I can't see how they get to 58 finals.  Lewis has 23, Chuck has 1, Bernie has a couple, Hibberd and Melksham might have a couple.

I think Lumumba is included to get it to 58.  Take him out and we may have the lowest finals count.

Take him out and other stats drop:  average age is 22.8 (a fraction older than the youngest team, Brisbane Lions); average games are 52.3, the second least experienced but for Brisbane Lions

etc etc etc

Some of the criticism on here is really dumb regarding Watts.

Having said that, it was a classic Watts game yesterday. Did some really horrible stuff, which just makes you shake your head. Next minute he'd pop up and do something that not many others could, like the aforementioned kick and a superb pack mark.

I really think he carried a thumb injury into the game, I watch him warm up only took chest marks, all the marks he dropped were chest marks waiting for the ball. I can't recall him taking any marks above his head or out in front.

Lewis and Hogan will both be missing next week so we should be prepared for that.

The game was very frustrating. It seemed to me that carlton were clogging up the whole game to make it a scrap and it was. But our decision making and execution was awful basically all day.  Many kicks were 25m-35m passes which either went straight to the opposition or to a 50/50 contest. The risk outweighed the return. Kick it long, or kick it short and keep possession.

Oliver, love him. He may start getting tagged soon at this rate.

I'd like to see Petracca at more centre bounces. He isn't the best kick for goal and he has shown to be an elite junior midfielder so throw him in there more often. And offset that by playing him deep forward instead of high half forward.

Tom McDonald is a great defender. Straight up. What he can't do is make good decisions or kick well. That free kick he gave away just about summed up Tom. And 90% of the time he marks the ball he always looks to switch it which is scary stuff. The McDonald brothers as pointed out by Lloyd and Schwartz are our main weaknesses on the ground. Vince and Lewis and Hibberd need to run behind them to get the handoff.

I personally rate Harmes. Always have. But I might be on my own. Brings tenacity and outside speed. I'd actually pick him before Tyson to be honest. But each to their own.

Melksham and Stretch are fine. They provide us with outside run. When you've got guys like Viney, Jones, Tyson, Oliver,  Brayshaw, Lewis, Neal-Bullen you need guys with a bit of zip and even though skills wise they are bit iffy, you need the speed.

Viney has definitely lost a bit of influence on the game the first 2 weeks. Due to the form of Oliver maybe?

Garlett is always unfairly criticised. He would be one of the first picked each week.

Salem found the ball and used it well but to be honest, he was drafted as a midfielder so until he improves his fitness and pushes into the midfield then I'll be withholding judgment on him. Great user of the ball but with Vince and Hibberd down there (and lewis at time), i'd rather Salem in the middle hitting lead up forwards.

Hogan, still very demonstrative. I almost wouldn't mind if he missed this week to give Weideman a go without the huffing and puffing of hogan.

224 posts and I am surprised that no Demonlanders have referred to the ultimate irony inherent in this win over Carlton, namely the fact that we secured our undisputed match winner in Garlett as a result of his being jettisoned from the Blues. If Garlett had of still been on their list instead of ours, the result would have been massively (6 goals) different, the freakish three goals he snapped for us (plus his goal assists) and the three that he didn't kick for Carlton! In Jason Taylor we trust!

Totally agree CBDees. But I think we can thank Mick Malthouse for this one, not JT.

Garlett, like Lewis, was an absolute gift.

Delighted that Salem is beginning to make an impact and be recognised.

18 Ollie Wines (PA)
17 Clayton Oliver (Melb)

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P
