Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't necessarily disagree, and while it's all about offence from defence these days, you still need players down back who can actually defend, and Jetta is an exceptional defender.

Between Hunt, Melksham, Hibberd and Vince, we have 4 players down back who are so so defenders and will give up their share of goals. This is where Jetta comes into his own, as he can successfully reduce the influence of guys like Betts, who we know can turn a game. His spot is only going to come into question if we are playing a team who doesn't have strong small forwards in their mix.

Yep, Jetta is a very good defender.

Until someone shows they can defend near as well as him he'll take his spot in the 22.

I'm fairly confident ANB will solidify a spot this year.

He is not terribly dynamic but he is a good leading mark and a reasonable shot on goal, and a good tackler.

I'm more worried about two debutantes in one match but nothing ventured..

Not at all. Just an inferior ground with a pathetic attitude to supporters - especially non home ground supporters. "Shitihad" just rolls off the tongue.

Watts on Riewoldt could be a very interesting choice. Has the height and pace and would be deadly on the rebound which would make Riewoldt more accountable and less likely to keep streaming into forward 50 with no defenders within 30 metres

Doesn't have the tank. I think Vince will get him if on a wing and we will accept he will get marked over on occasion.

Take your point....Must admit I prefer... Docklands

Stadium and competition naming rights are a misappropriation of history

The Toyota AFL Finals... the Emirates Mebourne Cup, the Benson and Hedges One Day Series (that's an old one)

How about the Red Bull Arena for the MCG !!!

By the way who is Ikon

Last night on 3AW pregame they were joking about the JLT naming rights saying they kept forgetting who and what was sponsoring the comp.

ANB seems to get on the end of some gimmes, he seems to have a knack for that, and if he can do that tomorrow and kick two or three goals and lay half a dozen tackles I reckon he will have justified his selection. Hopefully he will and hopefully he will do even better.

Think the panel is quite worried about the Saints ability to spread. Tyson probably the most vulnerable here of all the mids. Searching for additional closing speed with that selection. I don't know a thing about Hannan so the FD must be seeing something on the training track....including speed over first 10 meters or so.

Yeah what I saw in JLT was that. Speed is the first thing you see.

For all our supposed depth, that is a fairly ordinary side for round 1. No way Weideman & Neal-Bullen should be playing - Neal Bullen is a VFL player only, and Weideman is at least 12 months off being a decent player. I don't know Hannan at all but it is asking a lot for a bloke who wasn't even played a JLT game.

I love the logic that says that Hannan, Jetta and Garlett can play off one game at Casey, but Tyson and Kent (who both finished top ten in the B&F last year) can not.

I'm worried by our lack of height in the back line, and our lack of cover for any of our key position players. Pedersen at even 50% at least gives us some flexibility that we don't currently have. Frost is a massive out, as he is a good match up for any of St Kilda's tall forwards. I'm glad Spencer wasn't named, but not sure he was given such a prominent role in the pre season if he wasn't part of our plans going forward.

Sigh ?

I'm not an out-and-out Watts detractor. I like some of the things he brings to the team. But there's no way he should ever be considered for a run-with role.

ANB essentially took Buggs spot. I believe ANB provides more forward pressure and is likely to score more.

Hannan took Harmes spot beacsue we desperately lack speed. This lack of speed cost us both games last year and Goodwin isn't keen to replicate this mistake.

Spencer was never going to get selected for etihad as it would have made the side even slower.

Most teams are missing 3-4 of their starting side including saints. We are unlikely to have a full side again this year so get used to it.

U are dead right! Virtually no teams are st full strength on day 1. But if it gets tough and Steven is dominating would Bugg or ANB be the best tagger? ( ask Pendlebury)

hannah may be a great prospect but is he what we need tomorrow? I just think this team has been picked for the future, not R1

Not that I'd like anyone tagged, but if we were going to tag someone I'd go with Vince. Bugg is a fringer at best and isn't the future. There's no way ANB would ever be sent to tag someone like JS.

If you are pumped to see this team you are easily pumped ! It is a very weak team, without Tyson, Kent, Hibberd, Frost, VdB.

Bugg and Harnes are needed in R1 rather than a new kid Hannan. Spencer has played all practice matches yet is dropped. Hannan has played none and is picked. . For some reason coaches have lost direction at the last minute. I predict a thrashing . Will be happy with 60 points loss. I'm not bullshitting, I think it's an awful team

Thought Hannan was ok. Assume you'll be retracting the above?

I told you that you were wrong, Wiz.  It was a ridiculous post at the time and looks even worse now.  I hope you were able to find some way to enjoy the win, though.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
