Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Mitch Hannan gets a chance to cut his teeth in the big time.

Pleased we have gone with Smith as well.

Goodwin at least giving the kids a run .

Glad Jetta is back. His experience and composure will be crucial in a defence that seemed a little bit undermanned.

I feel like VDB is important to the coaches as a predominantly defensive forward, who can then bob up for a goal or two, and they have Hannan in to fill this role with his speed. Just give him simple instructions, run, hunt and tackle.

Just want to remind a few folk about Hannan's career to date and his value for us. 2015, BOG in Ammos' A-Grade GF for Premiers, St Bernard's. 2016, BOG for Footscray in GF v Casey. I have a very good friend who is an insider at the Dogs who reckons he's  the leap of Howe with X factor.

Holy smokes. Goody off to an explosive start. lol

Hannan some pace over Tyson probably a good intention... but Saints would be laughing.

Think the panel is quite worried about the Saints ability to spread. Tyson probably the most vulnerable here of all the mids. Searching for additional closing speed with that selection. I don't know a thing about Hannan so the FD must be seeing something on the training track....including speed over first 10 meters or so.

ANB needs to cut the false remonstrating down and focus on the footy and next contest or create another option.

As a young bloke who is fringe bottom 6, he needs to because he just does it too regularly.

Last year I think we made a few selection errors, in picking top heavy teams. Coaches came out and apologised Post match....don't ever want to see that happen again. Go Goodie !!!

Tell you what, we've been left in no doubt about Goodwin's attacking game plan.

Jetta in makes me happy, Hannan is a surprise good luck to the kid, may he kick goals with his first three kicks. Joel Smith is in for a serious introduction, likely to be the desperate drop-back tall trying to cover when the midfield cracks.

And that's the game there - we've gone quite small in defence compared to the Saints forwards, just completely double-down on 'we will run and kill them all over the ground, and to hell with the occasional easy goal out the back'. Still mean's sometimes Jetta will be on Bruce, giving away a handy 17cm.

Good luck to Nibbler and Weed. And good luck to Garlett's leg muscles collectively.

Let's kick 25 goals and send the rest of the league into a cold sweat!

Agree of Peds, he gives us more now than Weids does. Weids will be a much better player long term.

i think Peds might need a week or 2 at Casey though.

Count me in. That's a poor selection on paper IMO. Peds all the way at this point at Shitihad. Weids is a no impact player and at least a season away from AFL. Also allows the Saints to double (or even triple) team Hogan more often. Hopefully Weids is the decoy and we hit Watts up a heck of a lot, assuming he plays a mostly forward role. As Demonlad said, games are often won/lost at selection table. This one is costly IMO and makes things that much harder. Happy to call this an early season faux pas that may cost us the match ?

Surprised Hannan is in ahead of Harmes.

Edit: And ANB.

No Tyson either. :\

Harmes JLT was putrid. Surprised ANB ahead of Bugg but hoping ANB is given a good chance early in season to see if can convert his VFL form up a level and cement a spot if he's good enough.

Tyson and Kent clearly best 22 but both are the type that need more run and touch to be at their best. I know Weid's JLT did not set the world on fire but think it is right to persevere with him ahead of two rucks with one as a make shift forward. The thing he does well already is create space for Hogan, you very rarely see them go the same ball which the same cant be said once Gawn/Spencer rest there.

I would have Watts in the forward line and the weid on the bench.

NOT the other way around.

Watts will be giving Gawn a chop out when not in the forward line.

Who says he plays forward?  The inclusion of Hannan may see ANB spend most of his time through the midfield.

Was an assessment I made based on his previous positions at AFL level and where he was named. There may be every chance he plays midfield. I was just saying I don't think he adds enough to be playing forward

Pretty happy with the inclusion of Smith and Hannan - I've been worried for months that we'd go in too tall and they'd run rings around us like last time.

These guys are both pretty quick with good closing speed and I feel really comfortable with the team we're putting forward.

Happy for Tyson to miss this one - if we're needing influence of his style we can pop Lewis in the middle and cover him pretty well I think.

The coach must see something I don't in ANB as I probably have him further down the list, behind Bugg at least. Hope he has a cracking game though.

Cant wait, go Dees!

I am lost as to why any a game last year is mentioned at the start of the new season. Learn form the past but move forward. This is a young and skilled team. There are players that are injured and I believe should be walk up starts, however such is our depth now that we can cover them. Secondly the most important aspect of the style that we are trying to develop is that the midfield must look to leading forwards and deliver it appropriately. The team clealy has the learnt its defensive tactics, but it is the number of times that it tries to find a leading forward or correct option, and then misses the target, that is frustrating.

Problem is we've never learned from the past. They've beaten us for ten years straight.

I think we've finally picked a team for the occasion - one that can match their spread and pace on a fast Etihad deck.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
