Hibberd, Kent and Garlett are all quick players that we need for Etihad Stadium.

I'm very nervous about round 1 now.

Maybe we can drag this bloke out of retirement for one match Clint....was pretty quick...and hungry!

From the AFL website:

Headline: New Demon still three weeks away as Achilles issue lingers

Article: "Hibbo settled really well over the weekend and he ran well [Tuesday] but because he's been a little bit up and down, he's probably a couple of weeks away," Misson told the club's website.

Imagine he'll come back via Casey too, due to his lack of match practice. Wouldn't be expecting to see him until at least round five or six now.

This was the risk of getting players that haven't played a game in 18 months.

Hopefully hes back soon, and hopefully those of the banned players still at Essendon have injuries all season long.

Melksham won't get injured, because the bloke is sinewy like a mongrel dog.

Hibberd has a long injury history and has to be managed through preseasons and seasons. As Misson alluded to he's been up and down this preseason so he doesn't have the fitness base to go straight back in to the side after a couple weeks off for a trodden on heel. The hope will be once he gets right he stays right for a long stretch and at the business end of the year.

Watched hibberd train other day and it was mentioned by another seasoned observer that he doesnt seem interested. I kept an eye on him after this was mentioned and the glove seemed to fit...

Doesnt get around the boys, appears a little overweight and not very happy.

That was firsthand impression.

Melksham on the other hand is the complete opposite, happy to talk, hasnt missed a session and my guess will go on to play at least another 100 games for us.

I wish that i could give hibberd a glowing report however i reckon the game might have gone past him especially the speed its played atm so will be a mighty effort to get back to form as we would be a much better team with hibberd in our lineup

Come on, the game has gone past him? He's a 27 year old who missed one year, and he was flying as a player before the suspension. You make him sound like he's a 35 year old who hasn't played in 5 years.

I watched his "road to round one" interview and he's obviously a fairly flat and straight sort of bloke. Who cares if he's not bouncing around the boys like Melksham is.

It amazes me the conclusions some will reach on such little information. How about we await his injury recovery before deciding he won't make it?

Maybe disappointment (at not being available) is being confused with lack of interest.

Those of you who have suffered from any sort of achilles injury be it a rupture or soreness will know all about it.

Achilles is one of the most frustrating injuries to have and one of the most difficult to manage. Recovery must be very strict and controlled with improvement incremental. Unfortunately, running has to be restricted and only increased in speed and distance when there is no pain or discomfort. Its one thing to run in a straight line, but footy requires speed, distance, together with stopping and starting, and sudden twisting and turning, the latter moves a little like a squash player.

The key thing is to get it right in the first instance and not bring a player back to re-injure or worsen the problem.

Only time and strict management will get it right.

For a footballer, let alone one who has already been out of the game for some time, it would be incredibly frustrating. You are watching your teammates improve in leaps and bounds and you seem to be standing still and losing ground on fitness and game time.

I can understand if he appears to be down in the dumps.

maybe his resting face is 'uninterested'.. as long as he stays fit and gets back into it, he should be ok.

McDonald disposal grumblings are all fine. But there's a handful who regularly say they want them out of the team. Traded, delisted, just out... Unrealistic types who think every KP defender should be Rance. Not a lot of pragmatism on the old 'land.

Hibberd was asked about the injury and he answered the questions in a very matador of fact way.

There was no running away from it he said, cooking a large Paella.

"It's a small Spain, Sprain I mean"

 "Just needs a few siestas"

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
