Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I get the feeling Goodwin just prefers defenders with bigger tanks who can run both ways. Melksham, Hunt, Vince, Lewis even James Harmes can push up the ground and link up, spread and then move back in the zone. If we were to play one on one footy Jetta would be one of the first picked, but that's now how Goodwin wants to play. I still think Nev has to at least be a chance for round 1 and if not then he'll be very useful throughout the year especially against certain opponents and as winter sets in and play slows down, but  I can see where Goodwin is coming from.

The big absentee for me is Nev Jetta assuming he's recovered from his injuries - I'm a very big fan - he's great 1:1 against the best small forwards in the AFL - consistency, hardness, agility, nice kicking over short distance.  I think two things might be working against him and the main one is his height at 180.  I think we will continue to play zone defence and we therefore need taller players in the back 6-7 with Melksham the shortest at 185cm.  Nev's strength is his 1:1 against like opponents e.g. Betts or Wingard but we can't guarantee a direct match-up with strict zones.  He plays deep and I noticed last year he got caught out deep against much taller opponents and was out marked in comical mis-matches.  The other factor is his lack of attack, he's not going to provide run and penetration off HB because that's not his strength.

Disappointed that Pederson hasn't got a run in any of the JLT games when he was clearly streets ahead of Weiderman's in the intra club.  If Weiderman's is picked round 1, which looks almost certain now, then can't help thinking we are selecting on the basis of player development in preference to selecting our best side to win the game.

Intra club was nearly a month ago now and Pederson competed very strongly back then, so difficult to believe that's the reason he's not being selected, unless he 'tweaked' it or something else in a subsequent session.

It would be exciting to see some good form from Trenners...fingers crossed for him he gets a bit of a run

Will only happen if he lost a few kilos over the summer... carries way too much weight for a guy that struggles for acceleration and has a history of foot issues

The intraclub was a pretty small sample size. Really barely a half with a fair few Casey guys. Pedda looked pretty good for the back ups team and slotted a few if I remember, but I also remember Weed kicked 1 or 2 and looked decent. Either way, it seems like they've gone with Weed on the back of a good summer of improvement and they see no need to change the team after he's done enough in the first 2 rounds of JLT. When it comes to Weed and Pedda I'd rather back one over the other and give them a good chance before making a switch, otherwise history says we'll be going back and forward between the 2 all year.

Pedo has always been hard done by the footy club. I use to shake my head when old mate 'buckets' Dawes would continue to spud it up every week while Pedo would come in every 3rd week and make a solid contribution while in the side.

Excuse my ignorance, but is Nev Jetta injured or out of touch?

Seems crazy that such a reliable backpocket, who has significantly improved his attacking flair is being overlooked for the time being.

Even if Milkshake and Hibbo are playing roles in the back half, I would have thought Jetta was still best 22.

Is it a game style change which is getting him overlooked, or just that Goody prefers others for the time being?

Weed is a better option than Pedo

Watts plays well he's in round one.

This is a really good test for us coming up to round one, quality opposition also fielding a strong line up in Perth. This will give us a good indication of how we're tracking.

And incidentally, over the course of two NAB/JLT series Goodwin is still yet to taste defeat! Keep it rolling on Goody!

Weed has great talent and has a great future ahead of him, but as a young player his form will fluctuate drastically and he also can't provide the option of being a pinch hit ruckman.

Pedo you'll get an option up forward and at times he can do some really good things, but his biggest asset is that he can be thrown in the ruck. I still don't like Watts going in there.

My issue is that Pedo is very inconsistent and goes missing in games.  Weed will also do this but as a 20 yr old I prefer that he get game time because he will be 100 times better player than Pedo in the long run.

Is it just me, or is this not a very strong squad??

Trengove, Bugg, ANB, Garland, Spencer & Harmes are borderline best 25 players.

If these guys play round 1 I am getting a bit concerned. Harmes probably hard done by a bit there

Plus playing Spencer and Gawn is all well and good if Jake can do anything other than ruck. Right now we have the best big man in the AFL and we are going to have to play him forward (where Hogan, Weideman & Watts already are) to fit this other tall in. WAAAAY too top heavy.

We desperately need Garlett, Kent and  Hibberd back soon!

100% agree.

This squad, or anything close to it, is in for a 40-50 point loss in round 1 at Etihad. Bookmark it.

2 of the 6 listed automatically drop out due to the further reduction from 24 to 22.

By round 1 Garlett will have had another 2 weeks recovery from his hamstring - he reportedly trained strongly today and you'd expect him to come straight in.

Bugg and Harmes played nearly every game last year so they are solid citizens.

So take two out of Spencer, Garland, ANB and Trengove out of the list. Replace another with Garlett.  I think we're in pretty solid shape.

Backline: Hibberd, Jetta, Frost, Wagner
Forward line: Garlett, Kent, Vanders, JKH, Kennedy

There's a few probables and possibles missing at either end but it's our best midfield plus the extra ruck to further strengthen that area.

I don't think Spencer will play round 1 and if he does I think Watts or Weed will miss out. I don't think Garland or Trengove will play round 1. Bugg and Harmes are pretty reliable, if they are our last 2 picked in the side we can't complain too much. ANB is actually a bit of a wildcard with so many small forwards injured. If he can find a niche as a super hard working pressure forward then he might get a lot more opportunity than last year. He had some ordinary moments but showed a bit against Carlton.

Disagree.  When he is not doing something good with ball in hand, he is putting on good physical pressure and presence, which the Weed just isn't up to yet.  So many punters here have complained about game being gifted to young players in the past in the name of development and due to lack of depth, so what is the difference here?  Won't nessasrily hurt Weed to spend another year in the VFL while he develops physically.

Someone also mentioned Joel Smith playing ahead of Garland.  Whilst I loved Smith's tackling and defensive pressure, he was shown up big time most times when he had the ball and couldn't dispose of it in good fashion or to the right option.  Was great to give him two games exposure at the top level in preseason, but it's either Garland, Jetta, Frost, Hibbard or Harmes come round one for me.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
