Hows Dec traveling mate? Really hope he bangs the door down at Casey because I think his upside is huge and from watching him he would already be one of the best intercept marks we have at the club.

I also think Oscar is still so far off that I want Dec putting pressure on at Casey for a spot in the back half.

Yeah good. Has put on a fair bit of muscle, up to 96 or 97 kgs now. He hurt his ankle last week but it was nothing serious and he should be right for this weeks practice match.
Now that he has done a full pre season, he thinks he needs at least another one to really hit his stride. Even though he is the fittest he's ever been, he's natural tank has never been that great and he says he really needs to work on it to be able to be really competitive when playing with the seniors. He's able to fight hard and compete well for the first 75-80% of the match sims etc. but slows down at the end because he loses stamina.

I don't know if he'll get a gig this season, but if he manages to be in great form this year, you never know.

It was just announced that Justin Plapp, the Casey coach, will be coaching the Victorian interstate side this year. Huge upside for Plappy, he has done a great job so far with the club and don't be surprised to see him as an AFL Senior coach sometime in the future.

I will be going to the practice match vs Port Melbourne on Sunday and will be planning to write a report on the match, highlighting both MFC players and any outstanding Casey listed players.

Excellent D167 I look forward to your report.

Looks like there are going to be some big names taking part in that game D167 -

Melbourne forward Jack Watts to play for Casey on Sunday

"Jack Watts is to play a VFL game for Casey, just six days before Melbourne's season-opener, in a late bid to cement a spot in coach Simon Goodwin's best 22.

Having been overlooked for the Demons' first two pre-season matches, Watts was recalled for last week's match against West Coast and was a steady performer with 15 disposals and six marks.

Melbourne said on Monday that Watts would be in the Casey Demons team to play Port Melbourne at Casey Fields on Sunday morning.

Watts will be joined by Dom Tyson, who missed the start of the JLT Community Series because of a knee injury. Jeff Garlett (hamstring), Michael Hibberd (Achilles) and Dean Kent (back) are also in contention to play in the game after injury-interrupted pre-seasons."

Based on this article http://www.melbournefc.com.au/Team/players/senior there may be about 15 senior players front up for Casey on Sunday.

Only one or two are locks for round 1 so they all have a lot to play for.  Probably worth going to Casey to watch how hard they work for a spot vs StK.

The depth in our list will hopefully bring good things for Casey this year.

I honestly think we have stronger depth then last year, as well as a few good recruits for Casey and strong players in the development league, Casey are very strong contenders for the flag this year.

Currently paying $11 on Bet365, get on it fellas

Out of interest, who do you support in the AFL ?

My Brother was on Hawthorn's list for 3 years, but I was never remotely interested in turning.

My Brother was on Hawthorn's list for 3 years, but I was never remotely interested in turning.

I'm fully Melbourne now mate. As a youngster I was Collingwood because of my Dad, then at about 10 or 11 I turned to Geelong when I started to really learn footy and also my Mum was a Cats supporter, but never really learnt a lot about them, but now I am all about the Dee's.

When Dec was playing really good footy last year it reinvigorated my love for the game (I had lost it in the previous 4-5 years due to personal issues), and because I had watched so many Casey games and had been watching the young Melbourne players develop (Petracca, Oliver, Brayshaw etc.) I started watching more MFC games and became fairly invested in them.
But when he was picked up, it pushed me over the line. I now know more about this club, its players, its history, its coaches, then I ever knew about anyone else. I can now name every player, their Number, where the majority of them came from, I have been slowly learning the history of this great club, and watch and read every thing I can. Melbourne is my club and I believe will be for now onwards, even if Dec ends up playing for a different team.

Only kid at primary school who supported the Dees.  Tonnes of fights defending the hapless 70's Dees :).  It's the way I roll.

Started my Robbie Flower scrap book aged 7.

I was never going anywhere.  Rock solid.

I became 'welded on' as kid in the 1950s.  It was obviously easy back then, but I'm proud to say there's never been hint of wavering in my passion throughout the doldrums that have followed.  Oh yeah, "go Scorps" in 2017!

Congrats for persevering DOF. Like you I got on board in the 50's when the family came down from the bush and have stuck through all the years when it took a full phrase 'long suffering Demons supporter'.

As did I in 1954 just in time for the glory days.

Little bit of selection news, Keilty will be playing in the forward line and relieving in the ruck as there will only be one ruck playing, I'm not sure who but I'd guess it'll be Filipovic as Spencer has already played 3 preseason games. 18 MFC players will be playing for Casey this weekend.

I'm currently on leave but I'm looking forward to reports from Sunday's game.

I think one of the problems facing AFL clubs with teams in the VFL is the fact that the starts to the seasons for the competitions are so far apart.

Casey is having its first hit out against another VFL team this weekend and yet Melbourne finished its pre season games  more than a week ago,

This has left quite a few players in a bit of a limbo without much game time, especially since Simon Goodwin basically stuck with almost the same squad throughout the three JTL games.

Thanks for that. Has a list been published anywhere? Here's hoping Casey have a list of names and numbers being handed out on Sunday!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
