Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Clarrie is n the Team of the Week, again: Took control of the stoppages with seven clearances, and also contributed with six tackles and 32 possessions, which went with an 81.3 per cent efficiency rating.

Phenomenal performance.

He also gained votes from Coaches and sitting 6th on their Leaderboard.

Most 2nd year players are tiring, but not our Clarrie!

An incredibly consistent season.  Looks set to win both the Bluey and Best Young Player awards this year!

This kid is now 5th for total disposals, 2nd for contested possessions, 5th for clearances, 10th for centre clearances and 3rd for tackles for the entire competition. (Source - afl.com.au/stats)

Completely absurd for someone in their second season who only turned 20 a few weeks ago.

Seems to be flying under the radar of most supporters and experts alike, I wonder if his 'dive' has taken the gloss off the most complete second year I've seen from any player I can remember.  Or does his high handball/kick ratio make him a bit less flashy and eye catching?

Regardless, he is as important as anyone in the team now and I love him.  I remember a lot of supporters hit the roof when we drafted him ahead of Parish.  I'm sure Parish will be a gun but for now it looks like a great decision.

Oppo fans loudly proclaim he's overrated which generally means he's hated which means he'snow officially a star of the game. Once he gets respect, he's a HOF.

He was $51 to win and $10 the place prior to last weekend, although still $51 to win he's into $6 for the place.

I'm not quite sure how it works though, does the place work on most votes even if a player in ineligible?

If Merrett finishes third with 20 votes and Clarry outright fourth say with 19, would the bookies pay you out the place on a Oliver due to Merretts ineligibility?

In relation to that discussion about the best midfielders, if we had a Robbie Flower right now our side would be all set. Such a champion.

Kudos to whoever put together this video - sensational viewing.

Demonland's @Ash35 and @markc are responsible for getting that together

In the local supermarket last week, saw this tall ginger fella in the check out line. Thought to myself he's massive, did a double take as it was Clarrie. He's huge for a midfielder,  especially for a guy who plays down around his toes a lot of the time.

Going to be one of our best ever to have played for the club.

Just for a bit of fun, I thought I'd delve into the Demon statistic archives. Clarry's season so far has been beyond comprehension when you take into account the nearly 160 years of the MFC. (Sourced from AFL Tables)

-  Currently sitting in 4th for most disposals in a season with 599 touches after 20 games (only sitting 18 behind Nathan Jones' 2016 season). Clarry will without a doubt lead this category after the Brisbane game.

- Currently ranked as number 1 for most handballs in a season. Clarry has handballed 438 times this season, 109 more times than the next ranked player

- Currently placed second for most tackles in a season with 144. He'll only need 5 tackles for the remainder of the season Jack Viney's 148 tackle record set in 2016.

- Ranked third in clearances with 135 so far this season. Should claim second place by seasons end but will need 19 more to take first place away from Brent Moloney's 2011 season.

- Currently ranked fourth in most clangers in a.....actually let's forget about that one!

- Absolutely dominating the contested possessions in a season category. Currently ranked first with 316 for the season over 20 games, edging out Brent Moloney's record of 271 set back in 2011. He also shares the most contested possessions in a single game record with Jack Viney with 26 in a match.

- Also, currently ranked 6th on the all time list for most handballs in a season recorded by ANY PLAYER in the history of the competition. He only needs 35 handballs to beat the record.

And he just turned 20 years old.

Enjoy the ride folks. He's only just getting started.

While I wish Clarry would kick more often, he is still having numerous score involvements. I think he had 7 on the weekend.

I agree, when he does kick it he usually makes good choices and he is an excellent kick in all situations. There was a good example in the 3rd quarter where he was boxed in on the boundary with the ball after another go nowhere chain of handballs. He elected to do a kick around the corner and put an excellent ball to a dangerous spot just inside 50. The alternative was to put out another handball to a covered player or be pressured over the line.

Agree that the Brownlow is very overrated.

Shane Woewodin is a Melbourne FC Brownlow medallist, yet Robert Flower isn't.

The best 'creative' players lead the clanger count! Id love to see a clangers per posession stat as a mediocre player who avgs 10-15 possies would prob have a higher ratio, and the worst players probably not many as they never get the ball.

Was a good midfielder in a team that won a lot of games.

Always gives you a chance for the Brownlow.

Gone are the days of the likes of Jim Stynes, Scott Wynd or a Tony Lockett winning a Brownlow.

Midfielders medal only.

I prefer the coaches award these days.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
