Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Goodwin said on SEN tonight the club contacted the AFL umpires department to find out why he is being pinned for throws when the club think he is handballing.

I wonder if the umpires are reacting to some commentators narrative a few weeks ago that Oliver throws and are just guessing.

Good to see the club being proactive and hopefully the chat with AFL sorts the problem.

Well THAT's nice to hear, I was frustrated the other night that C7 failed to show close ups of handballs that were pinged (which they do regularly) (was feeling it was a conspiracy that suited a narrative). Clayton looked so adamant each and every time when disputing the decision...

I may have said it earlier, but I just think (other than the fact that they don't have a clue about footy) they just cannot believe that any human could possibly handball as quickly as does Ollie.

Mono, it didn't stop them letting the Dogs get away with plenty of dubious handballs in the GF last year, nor during this season so far.

He would be better off throwing it and too fast to catch. It's the unorthodox contortionist efforts that come across as suspect and get pinged.

I think Clarry can be a little too prone to handball at times. Sure when teammates are put in to the clear by them they look fantastic, but at other times, he would be better off keeping the ball to himself instead of firing off a handball. He is a very good kick and should be also using that to his advantage as well.

If he was able to have a higher kick to handball ratio, and slowly improve his tank, he would become a complete midfielder a lot quicker.

There's a strange equal-opportunities affirmative-action sentiment developing here regarding Clarry's handball-to-kick ratio. Like any player, I would like Oliver to be a good decision-maker,  such that he should kick when it's the best option and handball when it's the best option. Otherwise, he is extremely damaging and aggressive by hand, and I couldn't care less if he only gets five kicks a game no matter how good he is by foot. I also couldn't care less that by improving his kicking numbers he could better his chances for a Brownlow.

Agreed, mate. I think often people feel like they have to point out an area of focus to work on, but I think this is misplaced.

Scary thing is we could have had Sloane, Wines, Martin and Oliver if we drafted better.

An ex Hawk board member once said if they took Judd over Hodge he would have had immediate impact unlike Hodge who struggled in his early years.

The immediate impact IHO would not have seen such a drop off as they did under Schwab after the 2001 prelim loss to Essendon.

No dramatic drop off could have seen them miss Clarkson and almost certainly miss both Roughead & Franklin.

I think had we drafted correctly as hindsight now shows us we miss Petracca and Clarrie

Game 1: 9 kicks, 27 handballs, 36 disposals

Game 2: 11 kicks, 24 handballs, 35 disposals

Game 3: 8 kicks, 20 handballs, 28 disposals

Game 4: 9 kicks, 17 handballs, 26 disposals

Game 5: 8 kicks, 24 handballs, 32 disposals

Game 6: 8 kicks, 25 handballs, 33 disposals

This kid is a god, huge fan, have my babies etc......BUT i just think he should back himself in to kick it more. Won the draft camp goal kicking in his draft year and makes good decisions. Just think the handball/kick ratio is a little out. Should back himself in to kick it more, rather then automatically thinking of handballing whenever he gets it. I know that handballing within tight confines and being clean is his no.1 skill, but he could be even more damaging if he kicked a little more.

I can think of two occasions today against Essendon, whereby he went forward on one- took a mark and popped it to Trac - and then bursting through the centre and roosted it in the final qrt - can't recall who jagged a goal. When he backs himself he kicks damagingly - and presume the weight of handballs/kick ratio is due to his (as aforementioned) cleaness in tight confines - and playing his role.

How about the pack mark and quick thinking to set up Petracca in the second quarter. That was the only highlight of the half. Clarry resting forward should happen more often.

Today was his worst game of the year and he still racked up 33 with high efficiency. The kid's a freak.

I agree SS, and I was thinking much the same thing today.  He is a deceptively good mark and he knows where the goals are.  He would only need a few minutes down there each quarter to make an impact.

Agree wise. Plays tall doesn't he? There isn't a lot he doesn't do. As opposition coach... I don't even know what you can do to stop him. Tag him? Unlikely to be that effective given his inside work. Would just get 6 frees a game and free up Viney.

He could be a chance if he smashed the ball on to his boot and turned it over more.

Bernie a shoo-in then. (Please note: Vince doing the former was a welcome tonic in the second half v the Dons - please let him remain forward-of-the-ball from here to retirement).

His mark today reminded me of his contested mark on the wing in his first game. It was taken on the GWS captain, Ward. Very Michael Voss too.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
