That he allowed Gawn to go and rest in the forward line for long periods.

Haha. I'm not sure there's a stats column for that.

Yet.

Just think Pederson needs to play next game. I know Weideman is the future , but is he ready just yet?

Assuming we go with 24 again:

In: Tyson, Watts, Kent, Jetta

Out: Harmes, Johnstone, ANB, Smith

FB: Jetta  Oscar  Hibberd
HB: Vince  Tom  Hunt
C: Lewis  Viney  Stretch
HF: Petracca  Hogan  Brayshaw
FF: Watts  Weed  Vanders
Foll: Gawn  Oliver  Jones
Int: Melksham, Tyson, Kent, Bugg + Spencer (or Pedersen, just another tall forward to get a different combinaton) and JKH.

Would like Joel Smith to have another run as well so if there was a way to keep him in I'd take it.

I think I heard Dom say he won't play the next practice match.

If interchange reduced I say Johnstone and spencer out.

No one in. Unless Jetta is right

He said he is ready to play the next match.

Most of the consensus seems to be that we will try to field our strongest side (albeit that there's some non-negotiables for a few players to get past first).  If Kent and Tyson are right they come straight in.  Johnstone goes out and I think Harmes is in trouble.  Can't see them changing Spencer for Pedersen TBH, they could've done that already and are keen to give both Max time up forward and Jake some extended ruck time.   I'm not sure that might not be how we start the season off as well with Jesse moving up the field.  Jett's is fighting for a spot with Melksham not Smith IMO and I think Goodie will favour Melksham's running.  With Wagner going down I think Smith will play rd 1 with Hibberd - both can play tall or small and both are good rebounders.

No real problems with your thinking but I would like to see Watts play the next game, alongside Hogan, Petracca and Weideman. All four are skilled and unselfish players who I believe will augment each other playing in the same team. Also looking forward to seeing Garlett playing alongside them in the season proper as his last game also saw some unselfish acts, focussed on the team, not unlike Weideman gifting goals to Hogan and Viney on Saturday that he could easily have slotted himself.

p.s. Be nice to see Trenners get a run in the JLT series.

I could be wrong, I wasn't paying close attention but Ben Dixon interviewed Tyson at the game... Tyson said he was aiming to be back for the next game. So will be interesting to see how he goes.

I've got a feeling we'll have a practice match this week which could be Huge for Watts and a few others to attempt to make the rd 1 side.

My gut feeling is though they won't make too many changes to build some team chemistry... so boys are going to have to work hard to break in to the side..... which that is absolutely sensational. Since when have we seen that at the Dees???

I 'think we will see a lot of consistency this year and not mass changes. Team selection is going to be very interesting to see if Goody gives a few a run or goes with chemistry for round 1. And the team we play couldn't be a better practice. The flat tracker WCE will be a perfect trial for round 1.

Hope both Jordan Lewis and Sam Mitchell play...entertaining to watch them on opposing (new) teams!

Even better if the line up on each other!

What's the Casey situation?  Are there practice matches between now and Round 1 that some of our underdone guys can have a run in??

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
