Watched the AFLW replay of the Dees and Dogs game and only just realized they've re-recorded their theme song with a female singer and have slightly modified the lyrics.

To put it nicely, it's atrocious. Absolutely shocking. Very cheesy and cringeworthy.

Love how teams have modified jumpers etc but messing with the theme song seems sacrilegious and if they are going to do it then at least try to make it work.

Very glad we have not meddled with our great song, but even if we did it would still be better than this mess.

All 'modernised' footy songs sound weird to me, even just the newer club's ones. The change of wording was necessary but they didn't have to change the style. Lucky us that there wasn't anything that needed changing about our song- the best song there is!

It's kind of surprising that more of the teams don't have 'boys' etc. in their songs... Essendon, Sydney and North are the only others?

Maybe in the same vein where the male teams seem to have multiple guys they could have got a large group of women to do the rendition. Does sound a little weird, I'm basically everything is the same between the mens and womens team. One club, one song.

Granted, their song is gender specific (ie, "SONS of the west"), perhaps that's why they felt compelled to change the lyric.

Either way, its a terrible song.

Ours is clearly the best song in the AFL.

So, let me get this straight, you have an issue with them changing any gender specific wording to match the sex of the players singing it, and that they have re-recorded it with a female singing it.

Not only that, but it's not about our club.

If this is one of the biggest issues in your life for you to worry about, then I'm quite jealous.

Not much of an improvement over the Bulldogs current song. Which they'd go back to "Sons of the 'Scray".

I actually really like Mike Brady's rendition. Speed it up to 1.25 speed and it could easily be their game-day song.

Fine with changing the lyrics, but why go with one solitary female singer? It's weird. Would sound way better with several female singers.

Just out of curiosity, which AFL teams have more than 1 singer?

Didn't think you wanted to talk about things that weren't about our club??

Does ours have more than one singer, or is it digitally remastered?

I think ours sounds like there's more than one singer, though I could be mistaken.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
