Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I think Lucifers hero is on the money.

It is far more likely that Jack after a full pre-season has eased up a bit. I think that he did not push himself in the intraclub and that was noticed, raising the ire of the coaches. That is all. If he feels left out, good. I understand not wanting an injury and easing off a bit. The coaches are dealing with many players, few as talented as Watts, he may think he is a special case but in a team environment he needs to be a bit more like Viney, by the way which of them is co-captain? Watts is smart he will work it out and have a great year.

No fire here, smoke machine operating.

I thought I read in a couple of places (Twitter, Facebook, here?) that Watts had some sort of thumb injury that occurred during the intra-club match and that he has his thumb in some sort of 'brace' (supposedly seen at the family day). Is there any truth to that? If so, wouldn't that go some way to explaining his omission?

Hopefully the club will get on top of this and clear the air, if he has an injury, then say so, Jack has copped too much over time and doesn't need another assault from the media.

If he was in poor shape, then say so and don't let this get any legs.

So.....Let me get this straight.........A senior player doesn't get picked in the first practice match of the year in Feb  (horror   horror)

Coach wants to see how young blokes go against a top four side (Great)

Said player has a thumb or finger in a cast at family day.

Club or coach gives no explaination for who or why certain players played or didn't (Great)

Media goes into melt down and Jack Watts is in dought for round 1 which is still a month away.

DL blames it on Jack's new hair cut   (Geeze JJ from the bulldogs is in trouble with his new do)

So I can only conclude that Jack is lazy, full of himself, unfit, has a bad attitude, and really wants to go to Collingwood?

Have I got this right?????

My guess:

By all reports (DL and in the media) Watts has come back from hi s off season break in great condition, has not missed a training session since and is in good shape (which is pretty evident from the pictures of him).

He goes to Qld for the intensive 10 day training club and perhaps does not apply himself (across several areas perhaps eg diet, on the track, preparation, participation in craft and education sessions) - to the level required, particularly of a senior player.

A couple of days after returning from the camp we have our intra club game and he does not perform very well and perhaps his preparation for it was not ideal (maybe went out and caught up with mates after being away?).

The coaching panel not impressed (and this dribbles out and becomes a rumour) and advise him he won't be picked for the first JLT game. They tell him to pull his finger out and through his efforts on the track demand his spot for the next one.

If i'm right no hanging offence and i applaud the approach taken. That said at this point in his career Watts should be pushing to be in the leadership group not being reprimanded for his attitude,

I expect Goody will address the issue pretty directly (as, refreshingly is his wont) in his next presser and say something along the lines that others fighting for forward positions worked harder over the last two weeks and the intra club game and deserved a game more than jack.

As an aside goody could have headed all of this off at the pass and made up some spin as to why Jack was not selected in his pre game presseer. He chose not to. I am assuming to send a message to Jack.

Here's what drives me nuts. The whole thing is probably just  Goody making an example of a senior player to show he's top dog, and to let the hard push filter through some of the lesser lights. Who else can he push? Jones? Viney? Push them any harder and they might self combust. But now, if Jack misses a kick, or looks tired at all (everyone cramps early int he year) the media will jump on him, so it's already "true." To prove the point... let's say Hogan gets dropped for next week. Which could happen with his calf/ankle/shin whatever it was. It's unlikely to be reported, as he played the game out on the field. The media won't jump on his back, it'll simply be a regular pre-season rotation. In effect it's all the same with him as with Watts, only Watts is now news. The journos (and I use that term quite wrongly) are beating up a story they KNOW will be clickbait. Jack is screwed if he does and screwed if he doesn't.

I got texts straight after the game Saturday from West Coast mates asking where he was with wink emojis. These same guys who were saying Gawn is sliding down fantasy mock drafts since Spencer is now apparently taking on a bigger role. What a load of crap. His omission didn't seem odd to me on the day (we were STACKED with talent, and all kids)... and now because of the media, and a bit of demonland hysteria, it's become a thing.

Why the need for any spin at all? If the coach and club feel obliged to counter every rumour that floats from these pages or elsewhere (directly or in the manner you suggest) then it will be seen as very significant when they don't, making that particular situation worse.

We have more players than 22 who need a go in the JLT.  We could just as easily believe a story that Watts was not asked ot play because he was a lock for Round 1 and so no point playing in every JLT.

If I were picking a team for a practice match and I wanted to see how the team functions with two genuine ruckman, I would not play three tall forwards, otherwise the two ruckman experiment wouldn't be properly tested. I would therefore not play the most experienced of my tall forwards so as to get extra time into younger players such as Hogan and Weideman. Ergo, I wouldn't play Watts or Pedersen.

The above seems to have as much merit as any other argument posted here.

I attended the camp at Maroochydore and to suggest that Jack was anything but super fit is ludicrous. He trained with vigour and displayed his usual class during match practice.

I was very surprised at his omission at the weekend.

Ha ha..Sen have just said that Max Gawn has said that  Watts is battling to be in Melbournes best 22. Talk about twisting words to suit your agenda or to seemingly create an issue where none exists...

KB & Waldron?

it is a disgrace Waldron is given a Media Job in this city after what he did to the Storm.

I meant that Goody could have prevented any rumors by explaining his omission. He has been around long enough to know that not selecting jack and not giving any reason (eg he could have just said they want to rotate the forwards and give them all a crack) was always going to fuel speculation and potentially also rumours.

Seemingly, I'm one of the few disappointed that a player entering his ninth year, off the back of one good year where he placed top 5 in the B&F, was left out of a squad of 29 due to unsatisfactory training efforts efforts.

Granted, it's a small story and I doubt it will impact his year, but it reinforces an immaturity that helps explain why he's produced very little in the first 7 years of his career and has never threatened to get near the leadership group.

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
