Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I was just looking through the community cup and noticed the word Lavington - brought  back a fair bit of sadness as a 13 yo - wondering whether anyone else knows what I'm referring to?

David Schwarz pre-season knee injury?

To this day I will never visit Lavington (nor Laverton for sounding similar) for that reason.

You ran in to Biffen and Uncle Bitters on their annual footy trip?

Ox did his 3rd knee?

2nd.

Was one of the dumbest football decisions I've seen.
Plays a practice game in the twos believe it or not.
Came on in the second qr running around and jumping for marks like a final is in the balance, kicked 3 and on fire.
3rd qr tried to stop and change directions similar to like he did against the swans and went down.
Could not believe the stupidity of it all.

Third actually.  First one at training, second one at MCG v Swans and third one at Lavington.

Yeah, it still sends shivers up my spine - and much like Demonland - trekking up from the Bellarine to Melbs - Laverton was a place to hang the head a little bit. Glad its not just me where it has been seared into my memory...

The tragic event against the Swans was the most touching thing I've ever experienced in my 50+ years of watching football.

When Schwarz went down clutching his knee, his opponent , Dunkley , stayed with him , comforting him until the trainers appeared.

It still brings shivers to my spine , both the behaviour of the Swans' backman, and the realisation that possibly the greatest forward the Dees would ever have would be cruelly cut down before his prime.

The name Lavington is forever etched in my mind. I remember hearing the news on the radio. So depressing at the time, similar to the feeling one had at the MCG on that fateful day also against the Swans. Amazing that he came back to play at all. Not the same but still great to see him finish the game playing out the season. .

Unfortunately that's what you get with The Ox. Big personality, huge talent, but also impulsive and not prone to taking advice.

Had he been a more cautious kind of person, he would not have done his knee again (and again), but also might not have had the game to make it to AFL in the first place.

It is what it is. He was great but not long lived. Not so different from Jako, viewed with the distance of time.

Sad but not a tragedy. (Ask some people in bourke street if you can't tell the difference.)

I stand corrected.

Even dumber the way he went about that Lavington game then.

From his book it seems like his knee would have gone regardless of what he did- it was that messed up inside.

I believe he changed surgeons for the third reco and it's held up ever since.

Fantastic read Fork thanks for that.

Jeez we really do forget just how good Ox really was or how good he could have been.

Love the Ox in the media. He is a bogan supporter bit like Eddie McGuire. If you every heard him commentate on a dees games its quite hilarious because how bias he is.

Remember it well. Was sitting in the MCC, right on the edge, near where the Melbourne members area started (where the cheer squad used to sit in the red seats). He did it while we were kicking to the punt road end, near the 50. The crowd roared when it went near him, but then suddenly ... silence. Could hear a pin drop.

Was at this game in Lavington, can still remember the noise from the opposite side of the ground of someone sitting on the bench smashing the wall of the tin dugout when they realised it was Schwarter that went down.

Seem to remember Shaun Smith playing well in the main game, but everyone was just in stunned shock at what had seemingly happened earlier in the day.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
