Going by all the interviews, Yesterdays session was suppose to be a big one.

Interested me that Matty Burgans indicated it was a slightly higher intenisity as to the melbourne sessions. If that is the case i have to wonder if the report is understaing the intensity in QLD or all the others have been overstating intensity of the sessions back home.

People are overstating the intensity of Melbourne sessions:

Probably a bit of both, difference I note in Melbourne sessioms is more focus on footy and the physicality

As for the Indigenous players and some of the silly comments on here, every Indigenous player on every list is there, they train whilst there, usually they have All Stars game at the end but not this year

On Pedo, think the weight loss is deliberate, will ask him at next training in Melb, unless somebody gets chance in QLD,  reckon they have new role for him, have not seen him do any ruck work at all at training

I must admit, I had interpreted the 10kg loss as being deliberate rather than a consequence of the surgery. Either way, 10kg is a lot to lose.

Wish I could.

I think he is the swingman this year, there to fill in at both ends if needed.

On that Saty (or any of the regular track watchers), have you noticed who besides Gawn, Pencil and the young rucks doing any ruck work? Speciffically if Watts or Frost have been doing much, if any?

As an extension to that have Gawn or Pencil being doing much forward work?

I was thinking the opposite actually.  Thought with him dropping a couple of kegs, and building his tank, it might make him a very appealing 2nd ruck option.  He's always good for a contest, so if he can make more ruck contests because of an increase in fitness, then it has to help keep Watts forward.

My thoughts as well. And i think this response from cam to burgo supports that position:

“I’ve got to run around a bit more,” he says with a smile.

Not sure this means he's rucking - maybe he's delivering the water bottles after a goal is kicked

Hope not, I like his pack marking

normally people on rehab, not doing the weights etc plus being on end of season break put on weight. if he has lost significant weight it is more likely due to intentional change of diet and probably at the fd's direction

Not athletes. He was a big strong guy. Could drop 5-10kg in a couple months easy. I did my knee and lost 12kg over 6 weeks and I'm no pro athlete

Good to see JKH stY with the boys in QLD rather then head off with the indigenous boys. This proves he needs to do everything right to impress the coaches.

This is his last chance.

Not a lot to report from today's session. My guess is that today's training whilst designed to be one of 3 main sessions for the camp, was never meant to be full gas like some that I have seen up here over the past 3 years, where they were monitoring body temps etc. It was a bit lackluster in my book.

Either they are: still acclimatizing / still hungover from Australia Day / have already been thrashed over the last 2 days. Take your pick? I'm expecting Saturday's session to be the one to be at to get a better reflection of how things are tracking.

Here's some observations from today session for what it's worth:

* Maynard and Tim Smith both caught my eye. Both impressed me with their mobility for big guys and impact around the ground. Smith looks to me like he has worked hard on his game and will contribute something to the seniors. Maynard's swagger reminds me a bit of watching Petracca for the first time 2 years ago. Smith a focal point up forward and I think Maynard a back/mid at a guess.

* Slightly different vibe about training from the past 3 years. Couldn't put a finger on what it was. Perhaps the best way to describe it is it was a little more chilled out. Not sure if that is good or bad but it was noticeable.

* Surprised at some of the different faces being vocal and taking leadership roles. Vandenburg & Bugg among them.

* Won't bother listing the rehabbers, if anyone wants to know I'm sure they'll ask. I can say that all of them are not far off the pace and in good nick considering.

* Just realized none of the indigenous boys were there. Maybe training with the Boomerangs or something? Just guessing.

* Clarry provided the highlight of the session for me, making a tackle that I'm still shaking head at and wondering how he made it.

* Jason Taylor watching on. Was good to see him still taking an interest in how the newer recruits were travelling.

* The Hulk looking confident with his goal kicking.

Still waiting for some signs that some of that greatness is kicking in - Lets wait and see what Saturday brings.

Pretty early to be having his last chance, after injury stuffed up his 3rd year.

I will repeat what I heard and that is that the FD have a high opinion of him.

Correct, they have put an enourmous amount of work in to get his body right,  would be staggered if he wasn't with Nev and Jeff, they wenr to Maroochydore and left from there so I believe

Good to hear that Trengove clocked up the most kilometers in Wednesday's training session.

Another small step forward for Trenners!

I'm not sure it proves anything. Isn't he just doing what his employer asks him to do?

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
