Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yeah, I know who owns Liverpool and FSG are the biggest tightarses in the premier league and their transfer policies have turned Liverpool into a feeder club.

The Chinese have shown their willingness to spend in world football. If a deal went through, the Liverpool transfer policies would alter dramatically.

And let's hope it stays that way. ;)

Klopp will win the league in the next 2-3 years if he's given the chance. One of the best managers in Europe.

He has the capability, but the Premier League is vastly different to the Bundesliga.  Plus you need some serious quality in your side to get there.

Funnily enough, Klopp has won the same number of games to this point as LVG had at United.  He'll need to improve quite a bit to achieve a title in the next few years.

Monster Energy Drinks is the way to go.

We could be the Monster Demons. Have MotoCross riders and monster trucks flipping around the G before every match. That's the Carrum Downs market cornered. Dancing promo girls and fireworks... sign me up!

Hahaha hilarious.....couldnt we just have Red Bull as a sponsor aaaand keep the name Melbourne?

FSG don't buy. It's painful. Mane being in Africa has coincided with our drop in form. He's almost as important to Liverpool as Costa is to Chelsea. Without Costa, Chelsea are battling for 5th or 6th place. He's been so dominant. Liverpool has had a much better spread of scorers and contributors. What I can't figure out is why Klopp hasn't splashed out on two top central defenders. If our defence is tightened, we'd win the league.

Klopp's winning recording is tainted by coming in during a season, whereas LVG started a season and had a transfer window and summer to implement his plans. 2015/2016 was a rightoff season for Liverpool. This season Liverpool have scored more goals and covered more ground than any other team. Next season they'll be even stronger. Sure up defence and they'll be unstoppable.

Still think so, AF?  Not his finest moment overnight.

The EFL and FA Cup have meant little to me ever. The Premier League is the one I want. Need Mane back desperately. Massive game on Wednesday.

You sound like a Melbourne fan at the end of 2011.  Your team is wildly inconsistent, has a dodgy keeper and can't keep the goals out.  You'll need to do a hell of a lot more than sign a few defenders to 'win the league'.

And even if the FA Cup means little, what the game did show is that some of your youngsters are nowhere near it.  That's got to be a cause for concern, FA Cup or not.

I maintain that you sure up the defence and good purchases and you become unstoppable. Even under that hack Rodgers, we would have won the league had our defence been able to defend at all. I don't know what it is. Arrogance or what, but Klopp has failed to address the defensive frailties and to me, it has to be linked to spending. If we're only given a certain amount of money, we spend it on a young attacker (Mane).

I didn't see the game against Wolves, but I take it we played another team of mostly 18 year olds. Doesn't worry me at all. It's the senior players that have to carry the load. That's about the only Melbourne 2011 comparison I see. :P

As the OP I always find the digression interesting.

Wiseblood is right that it is based on other sports but I posted the topic mainly to see if people could crystal ball the future and more particularly were there ways to move the MFC to a powerhouse team.

Not sure that just winning does it... look at Brisbane and after GWS have won two or three out of the next five they will still be  a basket case.

My son barracks for Liverpool. Can't help wondering if he like me when I started barracking for the Dees in 64 has missed the glory years.

Cheers and as always thanks for the continuing discussion

Finally in keeping with our first game in China,,,,, Gong Xia Fat Choi

I wrote to the club a few years back suggesting contacting Red Bull re sponsorship/naming rights (I suggested Melbourne Red Bulls) they replied saying that as Coca Cola were corporate sponsors of the AFL they would not allow Red Bull sponsorship.

I understand discussing money...but the soccer stuff is irrelevant to footy.. They operate differently

Melbourne can always use more money...but as I noted earlier there ARE ceilings on what is able to be spent in various regards..Unlimited funds for selling the name is a furphy then...and we'd lose OUR identity to boot.. Thats never up for grabs personally

I think theres a lot of potential in using our name "Melbourne " better.  Over the years we've discussed it and had talks with the club and summits ..and emails etc etc.

This has already happened to an extent. Think of the Lexus/Holden centre, Ikon Park, Skilled stadium, Aami park etc etc etc. While the clubs themselves are not changing name, and nor should they, they are selling off the naming rights to pretty much everything else they possibly can in order to get the training facilities etc. The key to being able to do that is TV ratings, Success, and memberships, we haven't had much of each for the last decade or so but is why Collingwood can build a sand castle and have someone buy the naming rights.

We are in enviable position of being the only team that truly calls the G home, but that also means we can't sell off the naming rights. It also means we don't have a true training base, especially a traditional suburban home to sell off like the other clubs, our suburban home is the G.

No I'm afraid you didn't. Money doesn't necessarily buy the right players or make them play as a team. You need a good manager to do that. Klopp to me will be found out in the Premier League

As Ted Dibiase used to say "every man has his price"

The NBA just announced advertising on jerseys for next year which was thought to never happen.

Sooner or later AFL clubs will be bought. Hopefully we can still keep our name and colours when it does happen.

Just hoping that Tampax don't buy us ... The Tampax demons doesn't have a good ring to it.

If Red Bull approached GWS and said we will bankroll you if the team name includes Red bull my thoughts are the AFL would approve it in a flash as would the other teams.

Less AFL money going into GWS means more money for other things. The only reason it would be vetoed is if the power clubs got their noses out of joint.

As to the name they could even become just the Red Bulls or the GWS Red Bulls. There is nothing invested in the name Giants. Same could be said for the Suns.

Melbourne were the fuschias so name changes (okay symbol changes) are far from unknown even with the older teams.

Red Bull as a corporate entity can expect to be sued by the families of young skaters, skiers, bike riders and stunt-sportsmen that they have driven to their deaths.

They've been marketing "adrenaline sports" for years and killed quite a few already.

The naming rights are not up for sale but i wouldn't object to their involvement as a sponsor.

If we sold our name off I wouldn't be supporting the club anymore.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
