Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So much text on an ordinary player.  And I'll add to it...

Spencer can play some good footy, as evidenced by his good performance in Gawn's breakout game against Geelong in 2015.

As Vogon asserts, hell be good backup if Gawn goes down.  But that's it.  He's backup.

I'm confident of playing finals this year if Gawn remains injury free for the entire season.

If, however, Gawn gets injured, we're stuffed. I very much doubt Gawn's back-up will be able to get us there.

Speed, hardness, courage, contested work, good mark for his size, kicks goals off half back... in his first year.

Yeah, overrated.

Has X factor so probably gets outrageous comparisons (Dangerfield, etc). So in that context he may be overrated a little bit. But he does appear to have a high ceiling, and I don't think it is all just potential, as we have seen him do some pretty special things.

I think that's fair enough and I think Matt Jones is a good example. He turned training track improvement in to real improvement but still had the same flaws and was just a depth player. When we had the chance to bring Lewis in and already had Melksham, Bugg, Harmes etc as younger depth he made way.

It's not rubbishing Spencer or anyone reporting on him to say his improvement doesn't mean much yet.

Probably the difference with Spencer is he's clearly the number 2 ruckman and plays very well in the VFL. Therefore he'll always be around the mark in selection decisions.

Overall there's no point talking about his future beyond this season.

He was towelled up in the VFL Grand FInal.....

Certainly. And it's worth remembering that against guys I'd consider quality depth in Minson and Campbell he was found wanting, but most weeks he plays well and occasionally he dominates. More often than not he's putting his name forward for selection as the back up if we want to play 2 rucks.

Thanks WW, VP, Saty and all other posters another excellent training Report, also enjoyed most of the banter and opinion pieces as well, even if I didn't always agree with content. I think that until the team and coaches purge our recent past of expectation and constant failures it will be hard for some posters to fully embrace the positivity that is being endorsed in the training reports but to be honest the quality of these reports have also gone up a notch in line with the coaching staff and improved player list now at MFC and I like it a lot. Go Dee's!!!.

Spencer may not just be back up for Gawn. Injuries to Hogan and/or Watts may also see Spencer selected.

I don't think people on here overrate Hunt at all. The way I see it is people are more excited about what he could become.

I personally believe Hunt has shown more than Petracca in his short stint in the seniors. There are not many first season players (not counting his two injury riddled seasons) who can break lines, kick goals and take contested marks like he has done on multiple occasions.

I don't believe the excitement is misplaced at all.

If Gawn goes down, and we rely on Spencer to take ruck duties, we need to do these two things;

1. Spencer needs to compete.  He doesn't need to dominate, just compete.  Gawn was the number 1 ruckman in the league in 2016.  He rarely lowered his colours, and dominated a majority of the finalists.  Point is, they still managed to play finals with a ruck that didn't dominate every week.

2. If Spencer can compete, then our mids need to be smarter, and start reading the opposition ruck, especially now there is no third man up happening.  Sharking opposition rucks is something that the good teams do, actually, even poor teams do it (see Carlton v Melbourne this year).  This is where Craig Jennings (Game Analyst) and Ben Mathews (Stoppage Coach) will need to earn their money.

While it would be preferred that Max didn't go down, we follow the above two points and there's no reason finals can't still be achieved.

Doubt Roost It a troll. Been here for yonks. Some others here would be better described as such.

I don't particularly subscribe to RI's view but Hunt is still much more raw potential than accomplished. Hope he hunkers down and rounds out his game, could be anything.

Roost It successfully diverting attention from the original Spencer diversion of the training thread. Not a troll. Just a meta-commentary [censored]-take.

A serious case of "do as I say and not as I do".

You similarly have the capacity to do what you accuse others of doing. No matter how boring you find the criticism.

Your training reports are always appreciated, even if posters at do not agree with your player assessments etc.

As for discussion on players in general. Even if critical in nature, we're all allowed to critique and discuss anything and everything we want to in regards to the football club and if a poster doesn't wish to engage in that particular discussion, they don't have to. But if they disagree with what's being said, they have the freedom of doing so. You, however, prefer to completely disregard and disengage with the content of what's being said, and prefer to try and dictate whether or not we should be allowed to say anything at all on the subject. Like some sort of MFC-censorship agency.

M8. Keep providing your factual and informative player updates because they're great.

Let others debate and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of players like Spencer.

And everything will be rosey.

PS. How many more posts do I need to clock-up before I'm eligible for 'Mod status'?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
