Seriously though, I don't the club sees it that way.  We're just lucky that a player of his talent and experience fell into our laps for virtually nothing.  That rarely happens in this day and age.

Virtually nothing in a trading sense. But I'm sure he's on good money. I suspect that knowing that Lumumba was going to retire helped the club find the salary cap space.

Swapping Him for the Prince seems like an exceedingly good deal to me.

Isn't Lumumba's contract included in our SC despite coming to an agreement with the club to retire?

Yep. Though possibly a tad reduced through " agreement"

Still ....it counts. Only this year though. Some space made for Lewis ongoing I suspect

I haven't read much about Vince in all the reports.

Have any of the regular training attendees noticed how he is looking/tracking?

It's his first full preseason at the Dees.

Every other year he's missed a chunk of early training.

He should bounce back to his best in 2017.

Where do you think they'll play him PD? With Hibberd and Melkshm coming in we probably have enough defenders who can be relied on to hit a target.

Dunno.  Utility ?

Maybe use him like the Hawks use Burgoyne, i.e. everywhere.

He can play on ball, occasionally help out down back and even switch with Petracca from a forward flank.

That's exactly how I'd like to see him used. He's best on the ball IMO, but he can be very effective in bursts marshalling the play from defence and can easily kick a goal on the run from 55m at HFF.

I feel it's worth pointing out at this point that Lamumba waited until after the trade and draft period to officially retire, thus denying us the opportunity to bring in another player to replace him.  I'm pretty annoyed about that.

I am working on Friday and besides don't like to travel any further south than Caufield, looking forward to hearing maybe a different reporting voice

Of all the training days, think the Wednesday craft day is my favourite, some strange drills when you first look at them, but bit of thought and you see why they are doing them

Couple of favourites

Player has ball at feet facing away from player, whistle, bend down pick up ball turn left or right, depending on previous and kick immediately to player about 20 metres away

Player only holds ball in one hand, keeps other hand behind back, has to drop ball and kick to other player about 15 metres away

@SatyriconhomeSaty, just in case you go AWOL from work, Friday training is now at Gosch's.  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-01-19/location-change-for-friday-training-session

What happened to Kent

I never get a straight answer when I ask him, and after all the kerfuffle over Tyson, not much from anybody else.

Somebody said it's back related, no sign of any strapping anywhere when jogging laps on Wednesday with Hulett

You should stop asking him.  Clearly he doesn't want to be annoyed.

When not busy in those positions he can also help out in the Demons Shop.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
