Great photos 666

Fascinating comparing the bodies of Gus and Chunk with the stick insect 'saviors' shown in the current Jack grimes thread.  The club has come a long way.

Majority of players look really lean and strong. Chunk looks a little leaner but the likes of Brayshaw are our future and if they can maintain the rage over a career things look so positive.

ps thanks to 3, 6 for the continued great pics.

Smartest young Melbourne footballer I have seen for some time. Just needs to protect his head. All going well he is going to be one of our great players.

I know what you mean, but are these two sentences counter-intuitive? Oxymorons? Logical fallacies? Whatever the right term, they do seem a bit contradictory.

Perhaps if he gets more concussions he will get less smart and therefore get less concussions

I love that Jones has taken him under his wing.

A good club has the players driving their own improvement, the coaches driving the players to improve but importantly, the players driving each other to improve. I don't think that Gus could learn from anyone better how to prepare for the game and how to eek the most of the talent you are given.

(I sit in the camp that Jones does not have elite talent. What Jones does have is the ability to consistently play to the maximum that his talent allows him. That is far more important than raw talent as we have seen over too many years that there is huge difference between having lashings of talent and being able to bring that talent to the table consistently)

So true.

Nathan gets everything he can out of what he has.

I admired the more limited Jordie McKenzie for exactly the same reason.  Far more than some more naturally talented players who at least appeared not to give their all every time - Col springs to mind here.

Gus has plenty of natural talent and I have little doubt he will have the application to be a star.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
