Does anyone know what Viv Miachie is doing with his football career? I always had a soft spot for him and felt at times he was not given enough games in a row to prove his worth.

Boys no good back slapper

Don't know much about VAFA

but sounds like they pay players heaps

And you call yourself a Melbourne supporter OB? For shame! ;)
Many of the blokes on this board would be well versed in VAFA and with good reason.

Anyone notice old mate Sameal hasn't logged on to demonland since mid October last year? About the right time Viv was delisted.

I assumed he was a close friend or relative. Viv Michie wouldn't say boo to anyone (although he may have been more chatty with the keyboard)

I'm pretty sure his story was that his son was Viv's best mate or something like that.

He definitely had a strong Viv bias (funny moment when @Wisebloodstarted referring to him as if he was Viv). He was a good poster though, it would be a shame if he goes away now that Michie is gone.

Great to see Viv playing at Collegians. He is a Wesley boy and will enjoy playing under Shane Joyce. I know Matty Jones was keen to get him down at the Kennel (South Croydon) but playing with school mates got him over the line. (and no doubt the nice job Collegians would've found for Viv.)

I had a lot of time for Michie. Felt he got the worst end of the Sub Position when it operated. I wish him all the best.

His best games was as a sub, he had full games with less pos

Just threw it out there to see if I could get a bite

truly don't understand how Ammo s can recruit players fresh from AFL when there is so much big money available in the Bush and Suburban Leagues

Just asking

They use their contacts to arrange well paying jobs for players. Mostly it's above board and legal, sometimes it's a bit suspect.

There's other reasons why players choose the Ammo's though.

No drinking at games = far less abuse over the fence
Can play with their mates from school
Not getting paid means less pressure to be the star player
Less violence than some country and suburban leagues
Convenience - they can train once a week and play locally in Melbourne
Quality facilities and medical support

The other aspect is I don't think the Ammo's has a set points limit. The points system is one to keep teams equal in country and suburban leagues where by each player is assigned a points grade. Ex AFL player being the highest number of points. But after a year out of the AFL system playing in the Ammo's a players points will go down. It can be a useful step down year before heading to the bush.

I know it's still called the "Amateurs" but are players allowed to be paid (and I mean officially, not under-the-counter payments)? I thought I had read somewhere that it's now "amateur" in name but the rules banning payments have been modified somewhat.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
