Without making too much of a fuss I am a little insulted that they announce the end of the year for fans and suggest further trainings are closed only to have an AFL.com.au writer do a report. Rude.

Would the club have to approve the AFL reporter?

It's a public place, so the notion of any closed training for Melbourne is a bit of a silly one. But I believe there's an understanding between clubs to respect sessions that are deemed closed. I guess that doesn't extend to the AFL's PR arm.

Sorry I knew it was on today coz a few of the players told me on Friday, but I had to work, think they just didn't bother advertising it

Bit slack, Saty!  Surely you could have snuck away for an hour or so without anyone missing you!  We, in these nether regions of the Colony, hang out for your scintillating reports.  Serious withdrawal symptoms are coming on!  (Think I'll have to have another whisky!)  LOL

I would assume he was at training, given that he's still on the payroll and isn't injured (at least physically).

Assumption, the mother of all screw ups.

Fartlek training???

Think sharp variations from outright 100% sprinting for 100-200 metres to  "recovery jogging' then back up to speed then back into recovery over and over and over. The unfortunate "fart" element has less to do with digestive issues than the northern european language of the dudes who devised the method.

And, here I was thinking we'd devised a cunning new method of sprinting away from the opposition -- something akin to engaging an "after-burner"!  LOL  (Then, again, I'm just a silly old fart, so what would I know??)

Scandinavian athletes have been doing fartlek training for the better part of 100 years and it works for increasing both speed and endurance.

Did it in the military as well WJ, reason why I can still scoot with the best of them in my 'later years'

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
