OK, the midfield rankings have been updated and we rank equal 4th (top 6) at the time of posting (after round 16) according to Glenn Luff from Champion Data on SEN.

Meteoric rise from 18 at the start of the year.

Is Collingwood's midfield still top of the pops ??? If they didn't have such an excellent midfield, they'd be in all sorts of strife.

Well they are a successful club and all.

Collingwood were 10th this time around.

Who knows where they pluck their formula from, but given they didn't have Jack Viney in the top 50 mids at the start of the year, they can stick it back wherever it came from.

He is now like the 20th best mid in the comp and Jones is 15th according to their figures for this year. Their mids are ranked: Danger, Martin, Ablett, Pendles, Zorko, Sloan, Sellwood, Cotchin, Fyfe, Jones, Neale, Heeney, Treloar, Bont, JPK,

Over the last 2 years they have Viney at 33rd best player in the comp (22nd best mid) Jones 42 (27th), Tom Mc (31st and 2nd best def),

According to Champion Data stats our midfield ranking has increased by 27%, the most of any club and is now ranked at equal fourth.

Collingwood have nose dived from first to tenth, losing the most amount of percentage out of any other club.

They haven't made that public yet. They don't give you the whole rankings for the year, just top 20

There's a couple of ways:

Go to AFL player ratings on the afl.com.au website and list by midfield to find the ranks of midfielders: this is a rolling 2 year average, so Oliver is relatively under rated here. Interesting aside, Petracca is 91st in the comp as of this week off 32 games.

Alternatively, The AFL player ratings twitter produces a bunch of tables showing the progress through the year. Oliver has risen a lot but not as much as Tracc

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
