Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Go back and look at the the VFL/AFL was like when zones were in place, it was a disaster.

There is a reason we have a draft and salary cap, they are the two most important aspects to the competition which is why the COLA and academies are the two biggest blights on the current system.

Your missing the point CB, the national draft still exists.  But the first few top kids get to stay local.

Its not like the old zone recruitment area, with no draft.  I agree, it was lousy & unbalanced,  but in today's schools environment, & the effort parents, teachers,, & clubs put into teaching kids its all very different.

It just helps keep up to 3 top kids at home,  per year,  per club.   This would also bring back the interstate clubs academy's back to the field, as they would also be restricted to just 3 free picks,  before any bidding started for other academy kids.

While I agree with the majority of this post, brown and mcbean were in AFL environments and still didn't kick on. The club would need to decide of they think either of the Casey boys will kick on when in an AFL program

Hibberd and Barlow came from the VFL, so it's certainly a reasonable pathway, but I think it's definitely harder for key position players.

Keilty has a better chance than McInerney, but I wouldn't back on either making it.

You can't be half-pregnant, you either have a hard salary cap and draft or nothing, there's no point otherwise.

Well that's wrong.  We already have father sons, as well & academy's,. so the draft on its own doesn't work, because you get clubs 'list management' going on, to get a preferred player.

It's a nice idea but I just wonder if the game hasn't got so big that you'd get clubs giving out scholarships to schools in their zones etc. Those three pre-draft choices would be like gold and probably very soon exploited. Which club is in the private school belt and can offer a scholarship to Xavier, Carey etc.

We would just pay the fees for the kids education whilst on that list.  as long as the kid is holding his part of the contract, it carries on till draft time.

Each club would have 3 pre-draft picks from they're own academies, including any father/sons.  All other academy kids, or father sons not in the [3],  would be able for other clubs to bid on, for the draft.

Declan was quite impressive early in the VFL season with his stints in the ruck, up forward and primarily as a tall defender.

But he had a relatively poor finals campaign for Casey, which has meant he is no longer talked about as someone who will attract the sort of interest that would make see him taken in the normal draft - and the rookie draft now seems a more likely spot for him and us.

It may come down to a choice between him and Jack Hannath - who we were keen on four years ago before Freo nabbed him before us.

I'm hoping we go for Declan because it will also send a signal to Casey players that if you play well, then it is a potential road into Melbourne.

I'd also be happy if we took Footscray's Ben Long who is a pacey, medium forward from Darwin - yes indigenous - Rioli's cousin.

I always think we should be supporting NT players now that we have a relationship with the state and he is obviously one that we missed and the Dogs now have the jump on him. But I imagine if he's still around when it comes to pick 69 then he'd be perfect outside pace that we need to punt on - Dogs may take him at pick 50 though.

I thought he was good in the prelim thrown forward to do a job. Then the Dogs forwards probably didn't suit him in the grand final but he wasn't terrible. Rookie draft seems more likely all the way as not many mature players get drafted in the national draft unless they are dominating state leagues. I don't think the finals series would've made a huge difference to his draft stocks.

Excellent again.

Two players from Casey who finished on top of the ladder and played in a Grand Final.

Do Melbourne really need a stand-alone VFL team?

Its great isn't it? Plapp must be stoked as both likely to be with Casey most of the year so they don't lose the talent or the synergy and history they have with their Casey team mates. But will have the advantage of AFL level training, development and training.

A win for both young men and both clubs. A very smart move.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
