Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Clayton Oliver caught drink driving

Roads are better, cars are better, brakes, tyres, steering and signage as well as seat belts, airbags and the fact that cars are now many times lighter than they were.

The fact the we now have an enforceable limit also helps but it is too low and the penalties are high at the very low end of the scale.

Im not advocating that the 70's were better times just that societal reform and govt risk aversion has made it a very different world.

For full DL holders I think we should have a limit of .08 like most of Europe and the US.

We do get babied here in Victoria- the policing state- meanwhile there is an ice epidemic and car jacking has taken off as a suburban past time but the courts are full of  people on low range DD offences and pot charges.

Well of course they are, but these advances aren't out of the goodness of car makers hearts, many of these improvements are required under law.

I'm not saying we should be hanging Oliver for what he did, he has and will be punished.  But I am glad that we have strict road laws in Australia/Victoria.  The road safety education in this country is second to none - everyone knows the rules

As terrible as it is, I can tell you from my own experience that the only thing that stops me speeding is the fear of a ticket; crashing never crosses my mind.  The only thing that stops me driving after a drink or two is the fear of losing my licence; again the thought of an accident never crosses my mind.

And while we're on alcohol, America has a blood alcohol limit of .08.  They had 35,000 deaths in accidents last year.

Every 2 minutes in the US someone is injured by a drunk driver.

I blame Picket Fence for pumping up Clarrys tyres.

Never give a redhead praise or credit.

Look at that imbecile Lingy.

Also-I've blown a lot higher than that and did my sentence.

My parents generation would drink drive, smoking a cig ,with kids in the car,no seat belts etc.

Anyone who cares to put themselves forward as a magistrate and suggest tougher sentences for dui is at best an unrealistic prude and at worst a wowser.

It should be .08 for adults as it is in the "outside" world.

Victoria is o heavily policed in the wrong areas already.

Back in the 70's I would often drive home with a six pack on the front seat. Usually knock over at least 3 ( depending on traffic) and smoke a few ciggies.

Arrh the good old days!

I was responding to a post that used seat-belt legislation as an example of the good old days before nanny-stating laws were introduced.

I actually never said those times were better.

Your statistic was misleading.

Often cars had no rear seat belt .

My point was that policing at the low end of the scale is extremely harsh in this state.

The nanny state effect you refer too wastes resources better spent elsewhere .

It is still a wet tram ticket dc.

Don't know about that. To have to stand up in front of the whole team and all the coaches with your mea culpa is not something young Clayton is going to forget in a hurry.

Now they are on prescription pills, ice or something else .

I believe that drivers caught on drugs now outweigh those on alcohol. Don't know the exact stats, but it's all scary, and makes me want to stay at home in my dark room and be well informed by all the smart folk on Demonland. WTF did they do in the 70s without internet and Demonland? Don't know how they survived, those that did.

I agree with you, dealt with.

Some wanted more, even the spurious claim he came back unfit rose again

Mate the clubs own press release stated that; "Oliver, who averaged 19.2 disposals per game in his first season, has had a slow start to this pre-season and has been training with the rehab group as he looks to return his fitness levels to an acceptable standard."

That has come from the club! But I suppose you'd know better? ?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
