Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Delisted Free Agency

With the first delisted free agency period opening on Tuesday, the Herald Sun examines the 15 most valuable delisted free agents for 2016 AFL off-season.

I don't expect that the MFC will figure in the race for a DFA as we have a full list of players apart from the three places that need to be kept available for the draft. We would therefore have to delist a contracted player to do so (perhaps with the promise of picking him up again in the rookie draft) - as I've suggested before that's highly unlikely.

I'm really hoping Grimesy gets another crank somewhere.

Other than that, I'm completely indifferent about it.

not sure if it'a been brought up elsewhere, but we were real heavy into jack hannath who ended up going to fremantle but has since been delisted.

would be interested to see if we are still interested or if we feel like we dodged a bullet

there are a few pretty handy players in that group, i suspect at least 10 will get new homes which is insane when you consider they've been delisted.

if we were to go for one i wouldn't mind Barlow but i don't think we'd bother now.

I suspect any DFA action for the Dees was flipped on its head with the special and unexpected snaring of Mr J Lewis.  Any thoughts of needing to bring in 'experience' through the DFA is then moot.  De Santo, Barlow, etc no longer required.

i could really only see a fwd/ruck type ( maybe  Hannath) added if he is better than what we can get in the draft.  It will mean one more has to go, as we have to take 3 (including rookie upgrades) in the draft.

There was some talk around of us being interested in Josh Watts in earlier posts.

I wonder if we are still interested?

If he could get his injuries under control he certainly shows a bit and would be well worth looking at as another tall defence option.

State of play:

We've lost Grimes, Dunn, Terlich, Newton, Matt Jones and Dawes, and gained Lewis, Hibberd and McKenna. Nett loss of three.

With only picks 47, 69 and 84 (to be used on Wagner) I can't see us taking anyone as a DFA or in the PSD.

Given Wagner has been upgraded, does that mean we will now have a rookie spot to fill?

Yep. 3 rookie spots with white the only one staying on. Hannath will probably make his way to the rookie draft so there is still a chance

Currently White remains on the list as a rookie. With Michie and King being delisted and Wagner being upgraded, there are three rookie spots to fill.

Would it be desirable for Maynard and Smith to go from Category B to A, or doesn't it matter?

Don't think it matters, I could be wrong but there might even be some advantages to staying as a Cat B rookie. A Cat A, has to wait for a senior list spot (Long Term Injury, nomination, extra spot etc.) while I think a Cat B can go straight in a play seniors without an elevation. At least that's my memory from when Gellong did it with Blicavs.

I keep wondering about our ruck and tall defence depth. Someone like Litherland or Brown comes to mind to stock up the defence which is extremely thin if T.mac goes down.

I'd prefer Frost and Oscar move in to Tom's one on one role than either of those 2. Then we play another medium type as the third tall.

Litherland is worth a look because he can play 2 way footy and is young enough to have a future.

Brown I don't see the need for.

Or even Pedo, Garlo, or even Hoges.

Maybe picking up Petrie wouldn't be so bad an idea?

Barrett has been told he will be picked up by GWS as a rookie.

He has been in great form in the NEAFL this year. Big possession winner, high tackle numbers. Good clearance player.

I would love it if we scooped and used our first rookie pick on him. I think a club will take him as a DFA though. We would have a hard time attracting him when he would be behind all our other inside mids.

It's looking like we are done for changes and most likely will just take 2 draft picks.

Next year, depending on performance of course, could see a few older players leave/retire like Garland, HL, Pedo, Spencer, maybe Jeffy and even Bernie, bringing the average age down again.

To me they seem the group that will be looked at for the required list changes that need to be made to get us into a strong draft and to look at FA's and delisted players.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
