32279 (up 150 since the weekend) so not quite smashing it yet despite our two wins over the Premiers and the family day! Let's just keep the momentum up and keep selling the message!

Yeah I would've been expecting double that, oh well its looking promising still!

Just a thought... but if the memberships they took over the weekend were paper based or need some sort of manual entry or credit cards run etc. then that data would only be entered today or tomorrow and show up in the updated numbers on the website by Tuesday or Wednesday. I think there will be a jumpin numbers from the weekend in the next day or two

The 32,279 was the number in the morning and wasn't updated all day so you may well be right!

Hoping we catch the saints in membership numbers eventually (they are sitting at 34,066 today).

Noticed they have a new flexi-membership and it's a great idea to me. They state: "Our latest membership is all about being flexible. Come to all 11 games or just come to one game but bring 10 of your mates too. Use your 11 General Admission tickets however you like, it’s your choice! " http://www.saintsmembership.com.au/

Smart marketing, especially if at the end of the season you have missed 3 games and its the last match, you could bring 3 mates with you and feel like you got 100% value out of it.

Go Dees

P.s. North melbourne sitting at 32,485 today too.

What a great idea. All clubs should have that. Would also be good for country/interstate memberships - using all 5 to go with 4 mates.

Definitely and definitely.

An option to also get an all-purpose discount when bringing people with you would be good, too.

The stadiums would love it, everyone drinks and eats more in a group.

Bit difficult if you've got a reserved seat.

Will be interesting over the next two weeks compared to last year.  This year we have maintained an increase of around 3,200-3,500. Last year, the first week of March memberships jumped over 1,000 and the 2nd and 3rd weeks jumped over 2,000 each week. Everybody must get back on deck in March.

We've had a great start to the pre season comp which you'd hope would translate to more memberships than the same time last year.  If we do we could be around 38,00 by the end of the 3rd week of March. We'll smash the 40,000 Holy Grail if that happens.

Agree, our increase to 2016 has been static at around 3,200-3,500 since October.

Re the March 2016 increase - last year the family day was Feb 28 so the impact was more in March so I wouldn't expect the early March increase to be as high this year.

I'm not as optimistic as your good self, re the end of March figure.  A while back I posted we could reach 35,000 by round 1 and 45,000 for the year (end of July). The figure that really counts is the Final so I'm sticking with 45,000!

The figure I'm sticking to is 42-43,000 based on the increase over last year and the fact that in the past few years the major increase seems to happen right at the beginning and is just maintained not increased through to the end. However, I'm a bit more optimistic this year based on an expected improvement in our performances in the pre season and early part of the season. We'll see. There's still a lot of previous members who didn't sign up last year. As PJ has said in the past, the Club broke their confidence and has to win it back. I would say they should have gone a long way to doing that now and those people have a lot more of a reason to come on board now.

Impossible to know but I wonder how many extra members will be down to the inclusion of women's league? The Dees are probably the best team to watch, certainly of the Melbourne based sides, and have the most recognisable player. Seeing the number of number 6's on the backs of kids jumpers I'm guessing isn't down to Jordan Lewis. Getting a rock solid foothold in this market before the inclusion of sides from Richmond/Hawthorn/Geelong get started could help secure a financial bonus for years to come.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
