Yes I know that, but is that the reason he got up and left??

I trust you are talking about Jordan Lewis and not Chip Frawley or Tom $cully? Because this thread has been seriously de-railed!

However if it is Jordan Lewis to whome you refer, I suspect that we are at least 3 years too late for your wish to come true. If we get two good years from him we'll be doing well and it would be seen (as was Daniel Cross) as a damn good investment for the development of our list.

Yes I was talking about Lewis and it was a tongue in check comment but thanks for replying. ?

Well no ... some think that happened but when the story started doing the rounds some time after the trip it was just that Maxy chucked while on the trip and then it was while in the presence of the players before finally morphing into spewing while he was sleeping.

Did it influence why he left the trip?

There have been other reasons offered above such as a family illness.

Did it influence why he left the club?

Since there were $7.2 million other reasons I suggest that if it did then it would have had an infinitesimal effect at best.

Not only that but in view of some of the goings on with characters like Toby Greene and more recently the scandals surrounding Lachie Whitfield, if he really cared about his club's cultcha then he would have been out of the place and in the Australian Boys Choir by now.

As Saty wisely stated above, if you repeat something often enough, they'll believe you.

This thread is about Jordan Lewis, isn't it?

Haven't we spent countless hours talking and written countless words about the other guy? I couldn't give a suff about the other guy and I can't see any good coming out of raking over old ground, we all have our opinion and that's not going to change.

Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Jordan play in Demon's colours, he will add a further hard edge to our midfield and he knows how to kick a goal too, so that's got to help. He is a very important player for us, with his finals experience and not just a player who fluke'd a flag.

Ok I can shed quite a bit of light on this! Something happened (To Scully) on the end of season trip exhibition game in China resulting in him leaving early and coming back to Melbourne pretty pizzed off!

Thats what I know!

Wow. This isn't even Sandra Sully with the late news. It's Sandra Sully dying of old age, and leaving a time capsule that was dug up 50 years later late.

Had a good yarn to Lewis at the Sorrento pub last night, with a mutual friend.

Tried not to bother him at too much length about footy but he's EXTREMELY excited about starting with the club and  our future. I was quite surprised how passionate he was and how convinced he is of where the club is headed. Said he wants a fifth flag before he finishes up.

Other tidbits, he said unprompted how impressed he was with Goodwin. When MFC presented to him he was thinking this bloke seriously knows his footy, and speaking to the other players he says not only do they love him as a bloke but they reckon he'll be an outstanding coach as he is a real student of the game and knows how to manage people. Hopefully turns out to be true.

My mate asked him how he thought the Hawks would go this year and he said, verbatim, "couldn't care less. Hope they finish last". Obviously everything not at all rosy with that relationship despite what he said publicly in interviews.

Only a fifth!!  OMG what sort of weakling is he ?.?

Far too easily satisfied.

But in all seriousness, what you report is just fantastic news for our club, both in terms of leadership and further cultural change.  A huge cause for optimism, realistically for a change after all our recent false dawns.

This is my favourite post of the year. It tells me what I wanted to know about Jordan Lewis and what I hoped I'd hear about Simon Goodwin. Get back to the Sorrento pub Member's and keep your ear to the ground.

Gee did I get the good end !? Eh?? :P

Was the first thing out of your mouth along the lines of "I'm a Dees fan"? Of course he will say he loves everyone, would be foolish to do otherwise.  Thank you for sharing your conversation, I liked it but when such words are spoken by players, it feels hollow.

Did he say anything about where he would be playing?

The spin that's starting to emerge is that it's clearing a salary cap path for Fyfe and Martin to join the Hawks next year. But maybe it's just a sophisticated form of tanking. Not that the Hawks would ever do that, obviously.

Not to mention cc ogling him.  I'm sure the  $ulk has had nightmares, for what is it now,,, all of 5Yrs past, & only now the nightmare's appear to be easing off.

The positive is that we paid nothing, but on-field Lewis will under-deliver.  That 3rd year will be a complete waste of money, but many will say that is what it took to get him here.

Yes, our 3rd man-up at ball-ups will be more unpredictable with Watts and Lewis floating around Gawn.

Sam Mitchell is an A+ grade on-baller, and had an A grade year.  On the surface, Lewis is just beneath him....right?  Well how come Hawthorn get pulverised in contested ball?  Not beaten.  Pulverised.

The footy world and our supporters are delusional if they think Lewis at 31/32, with no speed, leap, change-of-direction feathers, will be anything more than a good-ordinary player.

I hope we reap the rewards off-field (leadership, mentoring, marketing); because it wont be on-field.

Anyone else notice Jordan Lewis going to his knees several times yesterday?  The game is past him, and he aint 3 games into a 3 year contract.

And when he fails to see half his contract out on the field, many simpletons will point to leadership and 'off-field' supplementation.  I guess he has plenty of time in the next 3 weeks to focus on leadership and off-field value.

Ridiculous. His leadership and quality decision making on the field has already been fantastic for us. He's an idiot for getting the ban, but 3 weeks is very harsh. If we can get 1-2 good seasons out of him, and learn just a little about what standards a successful club needs to stick to, it will be well worth it. What did we have to give up to get him? Nothing. SFA. Some space in the salary cap, and in 3 years' time, he will free up some more space that can go to our youngsters who will by then be demanding some more coin.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
