Scene: AFL house, Tuesday night. CEO's office.

Gil McLaughlin: Sh!t. Peter Gordon told me they'd get off!

Mark Evans: You didn't believe him surely?

GM: I know ... but he spoke so well. Pronounces his words so beautifully. There's something about a man in a horsehair wig that makes me go all shivery ... um, anyway, he swore they'd be fine.

ME: Yeah, but it doesn't change anything. They're still cooked. But we'll have to get on to Jobe now.

GM: There's a bit of a problem there actually.

ME: The media? Oh, the players association.

GM: No. Jobe. I already told him he could keep it.

ME: What'd you do that for!?!

GM: Oh, I met with him and some of his boys back when we were running the tribunal against them*. Told them to sit tight and everything would work out for them including the Brownlow.

ME: Isn't that a bit ... out of order?

GM: Hey. I'm Gil McLaughlin, pal. Brother of Hamish. (pause) There's only one way out of this.

ME: Robbo?

GM: Yes. Bring me the Fatphone.

* = this part really happened!

LOL!! EFC supporters arguing that because the AFL tribunal didn't find them guilty Jobe has to keep his brownlow!!

Maybe they should take it up with Dank?

I may have forgotten - does Dank still maintain that he has records?

If so why haven't they ever been subpoenaed?   Could / would they be were he sued for civil damages by ny or all of the "misjudged, maltreated" players?

If they still claim their innocence why the hell haven't they launched a class action against Dank and / or EFC?  I suspect it is because they know they are guilty though cannot bring themselves to admit it.

Imagine what Dank might say if he was forced in court to talk.

Might blow away the "innocent little lambs led into depravity" line they've pushed for 4 years.

I was going to ask "what is this guy on" but I guess we all have our own opinions....maybe he is just demented and deluded??

Maybe just plain stupid?

Watson has been found by the Court of Arbitration in Sport to have used a performance enhancing drug during the season in which he won his Brownlow. How is it possible for him to keep it?

It's not possible Jack ............................................................................ surely.

A must read today is this propaganda piece from Robbo in the HUN - Dilemma for AFL but Jobe must keep medal

Lots of errors, cringeworthy and completely lacking in any logic. The must create a dilemma for those who run the newspaper - how on earth did he get the gig as chief football writer?

Just read it over a coffee. The fact im not surprised how woeful it is says it all about slobbos journalistix skills.

Had to laugh though. The headline of the article says AFL COMPELLED TO STRIP BROWNLOW. Yet the article argues the opposite, concluding with a statement that jab must keep it.

Also had to laugh at the front page treatement and two page spread repletw with what must be the hun's 20th timeline (they should do a timeline of their timelunes). Thw hun will milk this to the last drop.

The quote from a mr hird in london that a great injustice had occurred and that the players were innocent also made mw chuckle. Who is mr hord in london - a cabbie?

No maybe.

Maybe now Dank will come out with evidence he claims he has that will support the players.

I wonder why players haven't sued Dank?

Maybe they know that he knows what thet took. Maybe has does have records that would incriminate them....

Haven't seen anyone in the media throw this up.......

Why hasn't Hird sued him? He has tried to sue everyone else.

The answer is pretty obvious.

Little has more money than the AFL and I think he is 'helping' Robbo with his articles.

Perhaps deluded and certainly completely lacking any objectivity. I suppose, he could argue it is an opinion piece, but given it's lack of objectivity due to his biases, completely unprofessional.  I suppose in fairness and given his own limitations, one has to understand that he has to maintain the consistency of his past scribbles over the past few years and also maintain his low journalistic standard.

One also has to understand that some people are without shame.

Society consists of the cheaters and the cheated. More often than not, cheaters are without shame. That's why they are cheaters.

From beginning to finish, the EFC and its acolytes have had no shame.

Somewhat contradicting my previous statement, whilst I don't want to feel sympathetic to the EFC, my feeling is that the whole process was botched and mishandled by all parties including the AFP, the AFL, ASADA and WADA.

I can't see any club ever self reporting and cooperating in the same wat the Bombers players did again.  And where are the charges against Steven Dank ...or are those yet to come?  I do wonder if there has been civil or criminal charges considered against him.

That all said, I did watch a fairly convincing story from one of the investigative journalism programs (I think it was 4 corners) that layed out a pretty compelling case that many of the big players in the elite sports and athletics world are gaming the system with performance enhancing drugs by staying half a step ahead of the list of banned and detectable drugs, which did smell exactly like what Essendon were doing.

Bombers cooperating? They lied on their forms, they left things out in their interviews, the club blocked at every chance possible, records went missing, not sure I would call that cooperating.

And Dank, he was charged and banned from all WADA affiliated sports for life. He is appealing it. Not sure on criminal charges, but also why have the club or players never sued him in order for him to tell them what he gave them?

Is that Robbo trying to write an article or Little coming up with his next marvelous ferry plan?

The only way we will ever know what really happened is when the ACC table their report to parliament. And when that day comes...

But surely Robbo still does the colouring in.

Edit:- Sorry Trigon, I hadn't read your post. Too quick for me!

Just as an interesting aside, I see Barack Obama saying that he plans for a manned Mars landing sooner than later.

Maybe Jimmy Innocent can go set up a tribunal so that he can clear his name. He can then claim that intergalactic Law, Transcends anything Planet Earth decides!!

At least then he can say that there is no way in the world the players are guilty.

By any Logic Watson gives back his Brownlow!

Mars Becons!!

Absolutely brilliant!

I imagine the last few lines would apply to a variety of AFL topics.

Hilarious.

He should be sacked immediately

He'll probably be given some sort of bonus.

Will likely take it in stubbies.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
