Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hunting down all those quotes reminds me of this :)

Didn't need to hunt them down Dan,  that was earlier in the week.

Admittedly I got a bit lucky with the news of the last few days.  But there will be plenty more messiness to come over the years for them.

Anyways, RIP Essendon lolol

How quickly it can turn. Who would have predicted in 64, what was ahead for the mighty Demons. It must have seemed like we'd fight off for the flag every year for ever and ever. Or South Melbourne after 34. Dogs after 54, Tiges after 80. Long droughts that no-one saw coming.

Carlton after 95? Talkback radio was full of supporters this morning insisting that they need another 2 years before we can decide if Bolton can coach or not. WTF? It will then be 5 years.... another 5 years of nothingness.... how easily the wheel of fate turns over. They are broken.

Now the dons at a crossroads. Please take the wrong fork!

The golfer Peter Thomson, talking about Tiger Woods a few years back, was tut-tutting about his messing around with his swing. He said, the winning mentality is such a fragile thing that you don't willingly mess around with it. It can be broken and never come back.

At MFC we understand full well how hard it is to get this thing "culture", "winning mentality", etc. It can be done. Look at Sydney. But how easy it is to lose it.

Past success doesn't guarantee anything, except a cup in the trophy cabinet to gaze at.

I feel for both Hird and Bomber in some ways. To have your guts splattered all over the media would be a fairly horrible experience.

However, let's remember that Hird especially wasn't the most diplomatic person in that imbroglio.

A simple 'I was inexperienced and stuffed up' probably would have seen them get a Cronulla style slap on the wrist. Most reasonable people could have accepted that as an explanation too.

Jimmy, probably harking back to the time when he called that umpire a cheat back in 2004 and still came up smelling of roses in the court of public opinion, was so arrogant that he took the complete opposite tack. Not only had he not made a mistake with no malice or ill intent in mind, he had done nothing wrong period.

Threatened law suits against his club, basically replacing board members and execs with his personal fan club and hiring Malcolm Tucker style spin doctors to threaten journalists don't sound like the behavior of a cleanskin to me.

I can wear bits about Hird suffering through the saga but when is he going to come out and say straight up that he stuffed up with no qualifiers attached? Same with Bomber.

Couldn't agree more - I suspect we are all more than a little tired of Hird running the 'woe am I- the Club abandoned me ' line.

If he could simply have the courage to engage in a bit of introspection and then state that, (with the benefit of hindsight), "I realise now that as Senior Coach, the buck stopped with me", he just might find it easier to 'move on'.

i do have to laugh at "the club abandoned me" line. he got enormous support from the club, even if they didn't agree with every action he took.

Cry me a river. Seriously when will this man admit the part he had in this, he was in charge of this club and went along with this idea. My god and you threw people under the bus.

also now footy people are coming out saying we suspected about Bomber or knew he had some issues, well you know what he needed help back then and an intervention. He has dug himself to deep this time.

If this was Joe blogs off the street im pretty sure he wouldn't get much sympathy. It could be an interesting few months.

A little off topic but we had a young AFL listed player come do a day of “work experience” in the office recently. He was at Ess at one stage of his career, he was less than glowing about Ess.

Arrogant was mentioned numerous times. Money just flows into the place, so they think they are special, young players just get lost in their system, on field leaders like Godard are all they look like from afar.

Feeling pretty good about my statement now after the last couple of days.

The words of Hird and Sheedy today backed up my feeling that the Bombers are going to be a mess for many years.   The drug saga was a culture changer.

Hird continues as he has throughout this sorry saga ..... woe is me. .... look at me. ..... its all about me  ...... egotist, narcissist.

And yet Gil, amongst others at AFL HQ seem to think that it is time to forgive and forget.

Gil thought that on day 2 Mono.

This whole sage is a good example of why sports should not be in control of policing their drugs policy.

On their way to another top 5 pick which they can waste won another small weak mid with no match winning ability.  (see McGrath, Parish etc etc.)

Hope Adrian Dodoro stays there forever.

But seriously, they will never get over it until they say, yeah, we did it. We wish we didn't, it wasn't good, it caused harm, but there you are. We did it. And this is how.

They would be surprised how accommodating people can be if you just come clean.

They will never  admit it even now hird is saying Thompson is innocent of the police charger, they will never admit it when so many believe they are innocent, lance Armstrong only admitted it when no one believed him. Not Until the weapon or dank spill the beans will  hird and thompson  come clean.

Anyone having a small dejavu with the crows run of soft tissue injuries? It was the first sign all those years ago that the bombers were in fact drug cheats and that that was the cause of it. Surely no club could ever repeat that mistake?? But it IS interesting. I'll keep watching that space.

When I heard about the Crows camp and the bus experience I thought there was a bit of Lance Armstrong about it.

Ya know ..... If I was James Hird and my oldman kept sticking his beak into the papers.
I'd be embarrassed and tell him to pull his head in.

No doubt he'd dined out on being the Hirds father during Hirds playing career and is now struggling to chew the fact his son is now an AFL disgrace.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
