Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Correct, now for another attempt by Hird and his supporters at revisionism.

But there is no redemption.

Very Nice James, but still lacking one key part. An apology for your part in the demise and heartbreak for supporters and players. Until that happens, well mate you will go round and around without ever being rid of the guilt which plays a key part in your demise!

I agree that the heat is disproportionate.

The club itself was not banned, as would be the case in other 'team' doping convictions. The club still hasn't actually been punished by the AFL for the doping charges, only the initial 'disrepute/admin' stuff.

The players lied on their disclosure forms. They knew - but they cop very little heat.

Since the hun's new columnist published his piece there have been quite a considerable number of printed letters and comments from readers singing his praise and innocence. so far they haven't printed one negative entry. of course no-one (with half a brain) is really surprised

Roughhead is humble.  Hird is still contrite. WE all know who the real hero is!

It is sickening that Ess are still harping on 'comeback'!

Hird contrite??!!??   He has never shown even a scintilla of contrition.

contrite |kənˈtrʌɪtˈkɒntrʌɪtadjective.

feeling or expressing remorse at the recognition that one has done wrong: a contrite tone.

Clearly I missed that little word 'not' but the context would have implied it ....  Hird is still not contrite.

How ironic that the current coach of the bummers says today that he didn't have any positive proof of drugs at the eagles when he was there.

Now he's at his next club and they supposedly have the same problem.

Shame on Worsfold, Eagles,Essendon & the AFL!

Bringing the game into disrepute ... Jesus, don't try that one on. Dean Bailey banned from coaching. Chris Connolly ... banned from and and all admin roles.

Very protective of the good name of their comp, the AFL are.

But somehow ... Trevor Nisbett ... still CEO of WCE.

AFL. Don't try them on when it comes to drugs. They're tough as.

There is no evidence that the Eagles did anything wrong. The players all said everything was okay. What more proof do you want than that ???

Funny that this is the LEAST talked about point in all of this. Robbo and his puppy Ralphy are constantly drawing threads to Essendon re WC. Its just another way of airing more pro Essendon complaints imo. I can hear the not so subtle sub text  How come despite "the lack of proof" Essendon got hammered where WC got off. Or its clear now that this has obviously all been a conspiracy against Essendon.

The only reason EFC got hammered is that ASADA got involved or it would have been swept under the carpet like everything else. Even then they tipped them off and organised a trial that would find them innocent. Everything gets swept under the carpet except the tanking saga...because hey, that was really serious!  Or so said the betting agencies that was paying big bucks.

I still feel angry about the public shaming the dees got in that period of time. For doing something that probably half the comp had done. Despite enjoying much of her work since....I also can never fully forgive Caro for going so hard. For questioning our right to exist as a club and Stynes' legacy.

I wonder how many clubs have won games, finals or premierships with players under the influence of illicit drugs?  Maybe even won premierships with players on one or two strikes.

Wasn't it Robbo who this week last year wrote an article about the high percentage of Collingwood players testing positive to illicit drugs.  I saw a table posted on DL before it was taken down (appropriately) by moderators that showed some very prominent teams' players being right up there and higher than Collingwood on that list.

And wasn't there a case where medical records were found strewn in an Ivanhoe street that implicated some neighbouring AFL players about 10 years ago?

And who was the Sydney player around that time that claimed illicit drug use was rife in the AFL.  Andy D canned him big time in the press and his reputation never recovered.  Just can't recall the players name but I think it was around the time Sydney won the GF.

I don't condone drug use at all.  But the bluster in the press about WCE 'tainted' premiership is just bluster.  It is naive to think it hasn't happened since.

Unfortunately for WCE they have had some high profile, very tragic fallout from that era.  I would bet my bottom dollar they aren't the only team to have won a premiership with players taking illicit drugs.  The others have managed to fly under the radar.

I actually couldn't give a toss about illicit drug use and playing. The illicit drugs that are performance enhancing are banned by WADA, and the other do nothing for your performance.

The issue here is that the AFL spend a whole lot of money testing for illicit drugs, many of which are banned by WADA, but they don't share the results with ASADA. Basically the AFL could very well be hiding the use of illicit drugs which are performance enhancing under the guise that it is a 'societal issue'.

It is about time the AFl grew the hell up and expected from their athletes the same standard we expect from teenagers in every Olympic sport.

The only way that will happen Chris is if you remove the "Old Boys" running it.

That has a snow flake in Hells chance.

I have said often if I was not a MFC tragic I would have nothing to do with AFL level football.

You are quite right about the issue really being PE drugs.  My post that you quoted was in the context of the posts before it about the WCE grand final, not EFC saga.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
