Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

What a mess!

Seems like dd above was on the money, ongoing investigations for a while from what I have read.

It makes me feel for the smaller trainers even more now, the ones that do the right thing and yet they are forced to quit the game or move their base to some location you’ve never heard of just to maintain the business most likely unsuccessfully as well. When I say small I mean a trainer that has a handful of horses in a stable. How can you compete with a trainer that has up to 4-5 horses in a race sometimes? I remember trainers getting sick of Waller in Sydney a couple of years ago, it was like spot the non-Waller horse in the field.

Here’s a question i heard on the radio. How many punters say at Mornington today would have thought twice about having a bet? Not many probably is my guess.

It would be great if they cleaned all this out, but how do you do that? There’s corruption in just about every sport and banning wagering like I heard on the radio today won’t fix the problem.

It's time the racing authorities put a stop to races being monopolised and a cap on the amount of horses that any trainer can have.  150 is enough but I reckon even 100 is plentiful.

But this new saga might bring things to a head anyway ... fairly sure that a country in Europe (France?) allows trainers to only have 1 horse in any given race.  It might be 2.

And a horse like 'The Autumn Sun' should be racing against Winx.  The finger can't be pointed at just 1 trainer.  There's a lot to clean up DZ.

Well do we know if Weirs horses are even going to be allowed to run tomorrow? Sort of begs the question if they had known about some alleged wrong doings for sometime, why not make their inquiries after the Spring Carnival?

I was going to make my best bet a quinella Written By and Nature Strip, but i dont think Ladbrokes and possible other on-line agencies allow it in a multi? I know the TAB does.

Best Bet:

Caulfield Race 4 No1 Lamborghini $4.60

Yep...

...not sure it will ever be cleaned up 'Macca'.

Is the will there to do it?

Seems they just skim the surface every now and then, make an example of someone then everything goes back to the status quo.

Unfortunately gambling/money lends itself to let's just call them dubious activities and that's not restricted to racing.

A lot of cleaning to be done.

This is about the welfare of horses rjay

And this latest stuff is huge ... so big that it should be the catalyst for change

Many in the industry are now calling for real change and much more governance.

Oddly enough,  racing is much tougher than most sporting organisations (including the AFL) but as tough as it is it needs to be much much tougher.

As you probably know by now all the Weir horses have been scratched Wadda.

It's just an unholy mess and I can't help but feel sad for all involved.  So much to sort out with so many repercussions & ramifications.  Especially up your neck of the woods.

Written By is still 3.90 from 4.20 after the scratching of Nature Strip.....goes alright first up. Not a lot else in that race.

Oh hang on, on Ladbrokes its 1.85....3.90 on Racenet?

Best Bets:

Caulfield Race 9 Number 7  Mr Money Bags $2.30

Caulfield Race 4 No1 Lamborghini $3.50

Caulfield Race 2 No 4 Pissaro $2.90

So there we have it around 23/1 this week punters, possible bonuses with boosted odds on offer at various outlets.

Good luck and May The Horse Be With You.

Ok now im completely confused....like what the?

So the owners have taken their horses elsewhere? Permanently or pending hearings?

So much for being innocent until proven guilty.

Can Nature Strip now go back in tomorrow? Are they allowed to run in blinkers?? God what a mess

Haha, applies to a few of us I’d say wadda.

Talked to mate about the situation and it was interesting to hear some opinions from owners.

Looks like Waller ended up with a couple of top ten draft picks above.

It's the owner's calls I suppose.  Probably an immediate backlash from the scratchings tomorrow as their horses are now out of sync with their program's.  It's a ruthless world we live in.

The owners may be pre-empting the possible/probable penalties that may or may not be handed down on Monday.

The logistics of movement with regards to the 700+ horses is going to be quite enormous ... I'm thinking there might be 30+ trainers involved with the relocation of all the horses.  There has been talk of placing trainers into the Ballarat & Warrnambool stables so that a number of the horses don't have to be moved.

Of course,  no penalties have been handed down yet but it's not looking good Wadda

Anymore updates this morning on whats going on? Guess we will have to wait till Monday, then the inevitable appeal to VCAT.

Apart from the exodus of horses from the stables the rest of it is just speculation on the penalties and whether there might be any more revelations.

There is a major difference with regards to penalties on the possession of 'jiggers' as opposed to the use of them.  An arbitrary penalty versus a minimum 2 years is my belief but I stand corrected on that one.

And the arbitrary penalties could be anything ... the racing authorities have been known to come down very hard with these sorts of indiscretions.  And there are 6 charges.  At a guess I'm thinking 2 to 5 years but I may be way off beam.

Using historical references Mel Schumacher received a lifetime ban (later reduced to a 10 year ban) for pulling the leg of another jockey in a race in the 60's (and no,  I'm not pulling your leg with that story Wadda)

And there has been all sorts of other draconian penalties handed down from time to time.  It could be a case of the bigger the name,  the bigger the penalty.

That's if guilt is found of course ... but again,  the findings and penalties are often arbitrary based,  with regards to the indiscretions.  Not being forthcoming with information is very often frowned upon too.

Damien Oliver in staying races when he is on a good or decent horse ... a no-brainer?  Timed his run to perfection to edge out my choice (Pissaro)  That's racing - always something to learn!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
