HOGAN LOCKED IN UNTIL END OF 2019

161004_Hogan_SignsRoatate.jpg

Delighted he has signed on.

Will take a lot of pressure off him and I'm sure we will see him fulfill his potential to be a champ, in the red and the blue!

Thanks Jesse!

Jesse's comments: “What excites me about Melbourne is the young talent we’ve got. We feel like we are building something special and that’s something I want to be a part of...“Goody (Simon Goodwin) has been great; we’ve got a really close relationship and I think he is going to be great for me personally next year and the rest of the boys as well".

Thanks Goody!

Amazing news.  Yeah, a 4 year deal would have been better, but he is playing for us for the next 3 years and we can now focus on becoming a consistent footy side that plays finals.  Bloody brilliant stuff, couldn't be happier.

America de Cali will be very disappointed.  What a shame.

“Obviously a lot has been made of me being a Perth boy, but the Club has been great in allowing me to head home when I can and that’s something that’s made my decision much easier. They’ve been really good with my situation and something that I am really appreciative of.”

Called it that it would be sorted before trade period. Was confident the club would have traded him if he didn't re-sign before that period. Zero chance they would have gone into 2017 without having him sign an extension.

Will Hogan by a free agent by the end of 2019?

Not unless they change the FA period to 6 years before then.

Wonder how many opinions of his playing ability and attitude will change now he has re signed?

Great news Jesse, and well done to the Footy team for getting the job done.

I disagree. But it is the very defintion of a moot point

But he will have been with the club 7 years by then. Doesn't the first year count because he could only play with Casey?

He will be an RFA at the end of this contract under current rules.

I remember reading the AFL have stated that 2013 as a 17 yo counts towards FA status.

Great news, unsure of why anyone would be disappointed about the length of the deal, or why the assumption is that he'll be gone after this one.

Who knows what the situation will be like in three years. Perhaps he'll fall more in love with the club and his team mates by then.

A monumental signing.

A big boost for the club. You can't continue to have your good players walk out year after year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
