Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

So we are paying memberships that are used to pay out a guy who is ok to play ? no way should he get an injury settlement if he is deemed ok to play. if he decides to renege on his part of the contract then that's too bad. only Melbourne F C lose out on this one.

I agree with this.

If he is simply fishing for a payout, tell him to take a hike. We are not a charity.

How many of his knocks were taken at Collingwood?

Isn't this an insurance issue?

If so there must be protocols in place for 2 and 3 club players who have an issue, real or imagined.

H is not helping matters by not training at all.

I'm not an expert on the workings of AFL contracts but:

He could turn up, go through the motions at training, play at Casey and collect a full wage. Or he could turn up, take a bump in the first training session or VFL game and probably collect injury payments for the rest of the year and an injury settlement as well, we can't exactly say he doesn't have concussion now. And whether he has a case or not he could file some sort of grievance about the performance based aspect of his contract and how missing games affected that.

Paying Lumumba a percentage of his yearly salary to go away sounds like the best of the bad options. A sad end but seemingly necessary.

AFL players must get good protection within their contracts which is probably fair enough because once the contracts are finished the get very little.

You won’t see Lumumba play again. Club is working on an injury settlement that suits both parties. It will free up a spot on the list for a rookie upgrade.

It’s between Joel Smith and Tim Smith at this stage.

Smithers!!!

Interesting thought ... you would think so ... but it is the AFL. They probably still use carbon copies for everything.

Sounds like very sane words DS.

I guess the sticking point is the "percentage"

These things are always more complicated than they seem on the surface particularly with legal ramifications involved. Sometimes in organisations it is best to act quickly and decisively to remove the problem before it affects others. It seems that no good can come from letting this situation go for too long. Easier said than done but I hope the club is working to cast HL adrift as soon as possible so that all can move on.

Reading between the lines - and taking into consideration the pride of the man - I reckon all was sweet until someone told him , truthfully, that he wasn't a lock-in to our best 22.

Confronted by this he worked out that his contract might not be renewed for 2018.

All of a sudden he's confronted with a season in the VFL -and the end of his career

" Hang on - I'm a Premiership player and I came to this club as a leader. Now -your telling me I might be washed up.... that's not what we planned when I signed up ..."

He's a sensitive man - and he might have found this reality difficult to deal with.

The unfortunate thing about this is that his status stayed in limbo- and didn't become an issue until the list management plan had been finalised

This should have been sorted in September/October - so that even if we had to absorb a payout we would have had the extra slot on our list to play with. Prior to locking away Hibberd did we see the Prince as an important part of our defence? If not - then we should have given him  a reality check long ago.

I saw him at the VFL GF telling a few fans that he was looking forward to 2017. Whatever changed was nothing to do with concussion!

I thought the only reason he joined the club was because he enjoyed his meditation sessions with Roosy and Tami.

I can't believe we are still indulging this sociopath. As soon as he was cleared to play by our doctors we should have told him to report to the club for training in a suitable condition. Failing to do should have resulted in his contract being terminated immediately.

I work bloody hard to earn a small fraction of Lumumba's annual income. I deeply resent that a portion of my membership fees (however small) is paying for him to sit on his lazy arse, whilst his fellow players are busting their guts on the training track. It also makes me sick that we turfed a great club man like Grimes so that this bludger can stay on the list.

If you end like HL I would be heading in the other direction at a rapid rate. Fortunately for Steve he has just the vehicle to accomplish it.

One of your influences ,Joseph Conrad, wrote a Novella renamed 'Children of The Sea".

The theme was about the effect of a Malingerer on a "crew" in sail..

The term "cast adrift" was used as you guys tend to do.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
