People need to understand that if we were actually a semi-decent team over the past 10 years our presence in Casey would be far stronger.

Not to the levels of the Western Bulldogs out west but much stronger than it is now.

I can't be sure, but my recollection was that the wording was carefully chosen to make it sound like we'd ceased these relationships altogether. But perhaps I misinterpreted. That's been going on a bit lately.

Our home is the MCG.

It's our home regardless of how many other teams play their home games there.  The other teams have their own facilities anyway.

many of us will be at the ground and as the car park clears we can fill it with supporters from every direction.train road bus all come to focus on the city.. From the grounds we can then disperse all over Melbourne proud in our colours  and able to command the recognition of our club that will build our membership

Why can't we build a second grandstand at Punt Road and paint it RED & BLUE? After all, the Tigers were the first Club that we allowed to share the "G" with us and surely they owe us? The second grandstand would help with capacity and benefit both Clubs (& maybe the Government could chip in like they did with the Tiges)! Couldn't possibly be a better post-match location (even better than the bars at the "G")!

Because Richmond don't have to share and don't want to.

Lets all get used to the idea that unless the "Docklands dream" gets up we will be in our current situation for the foreseeable future.

Sadly jack unless the docklands or Eddies grand MCG plan gets ups there are no alternatives.

It is a postage stamp that is barely big enough for cricket, it is smaller than the old Glenferrie and there is no room for buildings around the ground.

The current situation IMO is not stopping us playing finals of winning a GF.

Win Games and you will not care where we train IMO it is that simple.

What exactly is the problem with our current training setup?

Goschs paddock seems to be perfectly acceptable and was re-surfaced at considerable cost when we moved there. And the training facilities at AAMI stadium are excellent. I toured the place a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised and had my enthusiasm endorsed by a couple of players. A far better facility than the Junction Oval (which is being re-developed by Cricket Victoria as their admin and playing base anyway).

In a perfect world we would train at the MCG, but it isn't going to happen. Maybe in the future a stand alone training facility will be developed in the docklands area (as has been mooted), but for the moment our training facility is quite acceptable and within a short walk to the MCG.

Do you think any of these would deliver Melb a training ground? Its a real question. Somehow I cant see Eddie having that in his mind as he visions this. Id like to think its a possibility though.

From my memory it did exactly that.

North, Rich, Carl and the Dogs are at their traditional homes.

Hawthorn and Essendon are big enough to have moved out. St Kilda weren't but are running back home.

Collingwood have invaded and taken over Olympic Park. But the last time they won the flag they had a similar set up as we did using a public oval for training with facilities next door.

I really think we need a home for our women's team, for the possibility of a standalone VFL team and for a base for the fans. But I'm not sure we are big enough or brave enough to pull off an outer suburb mega complex like Hawthorn and Essendon.

I'd be constantly harassing/surveying opportunities with every council, school and university in or close to our heartland area about the possibility of a shared development. Monash Uni - Caulfield or Clayton, Melbourne Uni - Parkville or Burnley, Melbourne Grammar - Todd Rd, Scotch College, Albert Park, Fawkner Park, Elsternwick park. 

We need an oval that can be fenced off one day a week with facilities for a small crowd of 5-10k and then we need a building with fitness facilities - that can be public access - and offices.

The top private schools are all investing millions in to their football programs. There could be a mutually beneficial relationship to build an elite gym and grandstand in return for access to the oval. The bulldogs have a great relationship with Victoria Uni and I know we've got something with Melb Uni. 

It has to be explored and I hope it is, there's certainly not an easy answer.

Wasn't just a training ground requirement being spoken of, more of a home where supporters could develop a spiritual relationship

So I think it is not just our own football oval we lack, we lack a geographic region, a 'heartland' connected to our club.  Somehow we surrendered the inner Melbourne heartland.  Even with the new AFL 'Next Generation' Academy we don't get any of it back.  It mainly goes to Essendon with a small bit to Geelong and St Kilda.

The only real opportunity I see to have anything like the other clubs is to work with whoever 'owns' Toorak Park (where we hold some family nights) to have a strong presence.  It is where the club is trying to rebuild our 'heartland' support but it has no historical connection to us.  Altho' that could change if it was renamed the 'Robbie Flower Oval' and we trained there. 

Failing that we are destined to be nomads.

I have been advocating this for years. Toorak Park is next to transport..it is in the middle of our heartland, which is, like it or not, Toorak, South Yarra, Malvern, Armadale and down to the Bayside suburbs...that's where we should be based. 

 

Toorak plays host to the Prahran Footy Club, Old Xavs, Prahran Cricket Club and Melbourne Rugby Club. 

 

Robbie Flower Oval and the Jim Stynes Social Club..it could all be so good..we need to explore it.

It's not our training venue which is the issue; it is where (?) to head off to to celebrate after we win the Grand Final!
