When now we have this bidding system on father/sons, within the draft.  But father/sons should not be in the draft at all.  They should get a direct passage to they're fathers club, if that club has the list spots available & they want the F/S player.

Regarding Pre-Draft academy choices, it's my reckoning that we should get about 2 Pre-Draft selections for our zoned academy players per year, but the father/sons should also come through this academy system as well, so they can also get that special tuition from the time they are 16Yrs of age.

This is why I arrived at the number of 3 Pre-Draft selections, from our zones academy.

Hell no. The current F/S rules were introduced precisely because clubs were getting guys like Ablett jr for nothing like their actual worth. 

As for zoning, Rjay is right.We'd see a mass exodus of footy families to Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong. Clubs would be finding ways to pay families to move into their zones, providing jobs to family members... FIFA has had massive problems with this on an international scale, having to introduce rules to prevent clubs from importing junior players from Africa and South America so that they could have first option on them as adults.

While the system voming into effect now is far from perfect, it is addressing the potential problems and giving the smaller clubs a chance to compete.It's up to us to put the time and money in to make it work for the club.

The go home factor is huge because we draft the players at 18 yo. We benefited from Tyson and Sam Frost wanting to go back home.

The academies are great because we are bringing in new talent but given time I hope they are no longer needed because the state based comps are good enough.

I couldn't believe that the Hawks had so much of East Gippsland??? And of the north of NT.

I thought the Sainters would have had the Mornington Peninsular.?

 

We still should be looking at much younger kids than the TAC cup Stingrays.  We should be monitoring & teaching kids from 14Yrs of age.  Well before the Stingrays clamp eyes on them.

And so they should.  Father sons should be Pre-Draft, as they were originally. Free at the cost of a list spot.  Not for dealing & exploitation.

That Geography is easy.  First family home suburb, at the time of conception.  if they all want to shift to Tullamarine, let them.  Others will take the places.

The go home factor is getting stronger IMO, & in times of upheavel, it will continue to grow that way.  People do like to return to they're roots.

lol I think you're onto something here Mono, perhaps you have unearthed the AFL's secret plan. By 2020, all clubs will be allocated draft picks according to their TV ratings. Then of course fiddle with it a bit for the franchise teams, and we're done!

wow. One player per year from your zone pre draft appears reasonable, given a club would spend $$ on the game and player development.

4 players to top clubs each year or any such rubbish was not mentioned.

And of course Choke, this becomes self perpetuating.  High TV ratings come from Friday and Saturday nights, then Saturday arvo and no guess who gets the most of these?
