Are you serious. The Dogs list has had a massive overhaul since McCartney got the sack. They lost Griffen, Cooney and Higgins. Everyone tipped them for bottom 4 in 2015. Players like Johannisen, Wood, Hunter, Dahlhaus, Wallis, Roughead were just fringe players. Picken has been a revelation. Boyd and Morris were on their last legs. 7 other players who played yesterday have arrived since 2015.

Just accept what everyone else in the football world can see. Beveridge gets the best out of his players through a brilliantly devised gameplan. And that's the job of a coach.

Losing 3 players I wouldn't call a massive overhaul, agreed Beveridge has got the best out of his players but those players had all shown quality attributes under Macca like I said our list is the list that has had a mega overhaul

Not only that, but it's a very simple game plan. It's so simple that they can get a lot of injuries by bringing in non-best-22 players who know how to play the game plan, and the team performance holds together.

I've heard Simon Dalrymple (dogs recruiter) talk about the brilliance of Beveridge and use the example of Wood going from an often injured fringe player to an intercept marking star. Apparently  Bevo told him to back himself, trained his confidence and got him to use his fantastic overhead ability. Turned a player from the scrap heap to a star and captain.

Harder to say what Macca would've done with the others. JJ, Jong and others were stuck in the 2's. Wallis was a tagger. Roughead a bad CHB.

But some of that might have been development. Roughead at CHB might have been the best way to get him in the team. Wallis tagging the same, let him learn from elite mids.

Bevo is fantastic and brought the modern game plan of zone defending and revitalised Wood and Boyd down back. Freed up Picken. Has thrown in a lot of kids.

It's interesting that at Melbourne we switched to zone defending this year. Young key defenders were given opportunities. Young small and medium defenders with speed and skill as well. Not sure how much of a say in that Macca has had but he might have change his ways a fair bit. All very hard to predict what he would've done at the Dogs if he was still there.

Certainly for all his faults he did prioritise contested ball so at least the Dogs had a basis in that for Bevo to work with.

No depth eh?  Silly comment. We finished on top of the ladder and had more depth than all the other AFL clubs except Footscray today. And we couldn't play regular senior players like Jong and a couple of others. Would have been good to have been allowed to play Max Gawn and Jack Viney. We have depth, no worries. We just couldn't handle the Bulldogs today.

Yes and no. Young players don't have to dominate games to get me excited about them. I've seen enough of Oliver and glimpses of Weid and J. Smith to believe that they have got a lot to offer. And they all showed a bit today.

The players that I thought before the game that shouldn't be at the club next year were Spencer, Garland (both contracted), Terlich, M. Jones and Grimes. I'm a Dunn fan, but he was average today, and I think will be traded. I'd like to see Tengove do well, but I'm afraid he's cooked.

Kennedy, Michie and Newton are just fringe players, who I've now seen enough to think that they won't take the next level. ANB's disposal is deplorable. And then there are times when he wins contested ball but is too slow to dispose of it. Not sure he's AFL standard. And I'm not sure if White and Huelett have enough strings to their bow to succeed at AFL level, but they have time on their side for development.

So to answer your question, I had preconceived ideas about all the players, and as it turned out, they all lived up to my expectations, other than Dunn.

Pace & skill, yes Redleg, but not first.   Its the contested footy players with vigor are what the game is based on, then after the contested culture is proudly ingrained into team ethos, add the cream into the mix.  But the cream has to learn to be contested footy as well.

Now is the time for our list to gain more pace & skill.

IMO from today's dismal performance.  

Grimes, Terlic, Newton are certainties to be delisted. 

Rookies in Mitchie and White are gone.  Although Max King didn't play today he's another rookie who is gone in my view.

Spencer will be retained as a back up for Gawn.  Didn't look near the class of the Dogs rucks today.  I know his just re-signed but wouldn't mind seeing Campbell in the red and blue.

Trengove, not sure why they re-signed him.  Loved him as a player but going by today's performance his cooked.

Dunn and Garland, I'd be keen to hang on to Dunn. 

Positives, Oliver looks like a 200 game AFL player.  Weideman looked good in the first half. Hulett looked ok in patches. Did we actually get the ball inside 50 in the third quarter. 

Joel Smith, if he can improve next year again we've got a player on our hands. 

Salem was badly missed today.  Clearly our best last week before he was injured.  Would have provided us some composure off half back.

Well this is disappointing finish for Casey's year, losing the GF to a team they smashed a couple of weeks prior. I wasn't able to see the game and went to bed at half time, but it sounds like all the things Casey (and the Melbourne listed players) were praised for leading into the match, the dogs were able to smash them in. Particularly in the 3rd quarter. 

Its particularly dissapointing to hear much of the failure came from senior Melbourne players not stepping up. Finals footy is another step that our guys don't recognise, whether it's AFL or VFL. 

Well done Casey on a brilliant season, let's hope both Casey and the Dees can go another step better next year.

Late night, just watched the game not knowing the result.

We need a ruckman badly as a backup for big Max. Spencer got smashed and wasn't a lot better the week before.

I thought he would be ok but unless he has an injury then there's no excuse for the performance.

As for McInnerney, well those calling for him to be drafted are way off the mark. He's a good local level ruckman.

The rest of the game, well Oliver is a star, M Jones did ok, Smith (MFC) has a lot to learn and a lot to work with, Smith (Casey) can hold his head high, Weed is a smart player....not much more to talk about.

Probably would have been better having an early night...

Was at the game yesterday and it was tough to watch. Very unfortunate way to end what's been a great season.

Match was lost in the midfield. At that venue our midfield had to totally control the play, otherwise we were always in danger of being cut up on the outside. Dogs midfield managed to break even though and in the 3rd term smash us which was the game.

Not really feeling in the mood to give a full player run down, so will only provide a short one.

Oliver is a star

Weideman competed well but needs to get stronger.

Trengove did a few really nice things. His hanball over the top in the centre square in the 1st term pure class. Not writing him off yet.

Spencer was really disapointing 

Dunn/Garland i asdumed we'd only trade one, but we may trade both. List management will have a bit to think about.

White was ok

All the others struggled.

We'll see a very different Casey next year. Highly likely there'll be no Grimes, Michie, Newton, Terlich, M. Jones, Pedersen, Dawes and good chance one or both of Dunn & Garland will be gone also.

Bring on the egg & bacon rolls next year and go Scorps!
