Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's a bloody sad state of affairs when I would actually rather [censored] GWS to win a premiership over either alternative (Geelong or Sydney).

I can't stomach either of these teams winning yet another bloody premiership.

Dont then jump on the doggies wagon. Im hoping to hell the dogs win against the giants. I hope the cats win as well. I could not stomach a gws/swans GF.

Two minutes of the third quarter is enough for me, Spectre it is.

I watched The Gift with Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton. Creepy movie. Then I watched ex-machina. Would recommend both as substitutes for boring football games.

Looks like Eddie is getting extra sensitive - having a go at Clarkson for saying his 3- peat is better than pies 4 in a row!  Brave words by Clarkson. He said:  “They talk about Collingwood and four in a row. And it was a fantastic achievement, but honestly. They won two of those losing a preliminary final, Collingwood.”

Very funny seeing Eddie upset over the jibes coming his way, firstly from our PJ now from Clarkson.

Anyone know what Clarkson meant by Coll winning 2 flags on the back of prelim final losses.  Did he mean the 2nd semi or was the prelim something different in 1927-1930?  Just curious.

Wonder if something's happened behind the scenes? Seems like Eddie's ruffled someone's feathers...

Certainly doesn't like it when someone ruffles his!!

He took a beating with his Board after the 'Caro drowning' episode.  It nearly cost them the Holden sponsorship.  Now his 'captain's call' with Grubby Allen may have backfired having lost Balme and upsetting Derek Hine, not to mention his favourite son/coach is struggling.

Cracks are appearing at Holden stadium on and off the field!

Another match with rampant throwing.

It boggles the mind how the umps dept can't work out that having been so red hot on calling frees for anything remotely resembling deliberate out of bounds, that the same approach would work for throwing. As in, if it's not absolutely a clear cut handball, call it as a throw. Then watch as throwing is eradicated in less than one round.

Why they decided they needed to crack down on this "scourge" of deliberate OOB when we routinely have throwing, short kicks, and holding off the ball on a weekly basis beats me.

Totally agree. Really get angry which means that I am angry most of the time!

The only thing to be said is that it has been going on for a long time and the more successful clubs have used the umpires leniency on throwing to great advantage to ensure quick ball movement. The two handed flick out has been perfected to the point that the old fashioned handball is almost a thing of the past. I can only think that this is a direction from the top to ensure a fast flow on style of game is maintained and is a way of avoiding the congestion and huddles around the ball. However, I find myself shouting at the TV when I watch the blatant throwing taking place in every game. At times, handball resembles a flick pass, and, at its worst, a rugby pass. The Hawks and the Cats are expert but other sides are catching up.

The word handball should be replaced by the word handpass and the change in interpretation of the rule acknowledged or the rule changed.

Clarko was right, they had a bizaare finals system back then. In 1929, Collingwood got smashed in the 2nd semi, but still went straight through to the GF (avoided the prelim) because they were minor premiers. In 1930, they lost the GF to Geelong (called prelim for the record), but again because they were the minor premiers, they had a rematch against Geelong, which they won.

rules were different back then. i seem to remember that last year's premier had the right to challenge this year's premier to a grand final-final. maybe, without researching this one specifically it was under this rule?

Thanks guys.

Bizzare rules . So if a team were the minor premiers they had all these special privileges - lose the 2nd semi, no problem go thru to the GF; get beaten in the GF, no problem just challenge the winner.

Makes our reign of the 1955 to 1960 seem massive.

Maybe the "Mitchell special" 8-10 metre passes being paid as marks is part of the same thing.  Avoid a congested stoppage.

Or, maybe, just crap umpiring and leaning towards a top team.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
