Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Norks are shot. Desperation has set in... they are dumping their champs, pinning hopes on new recruits. Clear as day.

Finally, thanks for the Rockliff info, what an earth shattering announcement...

Well that is a lesson for anyone who want's to pass on a trade whisper, on the trade whisper thread, don't, unless Stuie  thinks it is earth shattering.

The Sam Mitchell trade hasn't gone through yet, right?

He must be out of contract, because he said he's only been on 1-year contracts for the past 4-5 years.

So my question is: how low would WCE have to go for Horks to refuse the trade? 2nd rounder? 3rd rounder??

After all that Clarko has said about wanting to do the best for Sammy-boy, all the talk about it being the right timing for the wife & kids ... Can anybody see a scenario whereby the Horks will refuse to allow Sammy to go through with what has been pumped up as his chance-of-a-lifetime?? After the backflip on Lewis, can they afford to backflip on Mitchell if they don't get the offer they want?

They are banking on WCE coughing up a first rounder (for a one-year player, however good he is) in order to get the JOM trade up (surely a 2nd-rounder wouldn't get them JOM?) But ... why on earth should WCE give their first rounder when Clarko has put the Horks into a position where they'd look Trump-level disgraceful if they now went back on the deal?

Will the WCE top brass be OK about Adam Simpson doing a sweetheart deal to help his mate Clarko out? Or will they realise that they totally hold the whip hand in this situation and try to get as good a deal as possible for the good of the club?

Unless WCE are prepared to submit their interests to the Hawks' interests, this isn't over.

Unfortunately it's more about cap space and less about trade value with Mitchell but I get your point.

You would think that we can offer our second rounder for Lewis and get 3 or more years from him. Hawks get a better pick than they do from WCE and have a similar freeing up of cash for JOM.

No he signed another 1 year contract during this season to cover him for 2017.

The deal is supposed to be a swan of picks and will go through tomorrow according to the HS....not sure what picks.

We can only hope...

The trigger to the disintegration of our culture during the last decade was the decision to pension off Junior McDonald.

Clubs aren't names or colours or trophy cabinets they are people. Hawthorn players now know that however hard they sweat for their coaches, teammates and supporters- however much  their salary they sacrifice to stay together  - however much they want to be one club players - they are liable to be shafted .

Knowing that - can they give 100% every week? If so can they  find the extra 10% necessary to win the flag?

Would they have done the same thing if they'd just won the flag - and Mitchell and Lewis were in the frame for their 5th flag in a row.

They call themselves the family club. We keep hearing that in today's society - the family unit is under threat .

We can only hope!!

PS .If the Lewis to Melbourne deal is still alive - I'd do it - but I wouldn't be offering anything more than a 3rd round pick.

Oh my god!! It's Friday and nothing has happened!!! Josh where are you, why are you so fixated on just the Hibberd deal? Why are you so passive??? I feel let down. Why are you not tweaking my bits when I need it?!

Not serious, just getting it in before old mate O does 3 times today.

Collingwood's arrogance has no bounds:  "The Courier Mail is reporting the Magpies offered Levi Greenwood for Rockliff and also wanted the Lions to pay a major part of Rockliff's wage next season"

WOW, that is such an insult to all concerned - offering a player they want to offload for an AA Captain!  What are they on!  I guess it is typical.

Btw his contract is not $800k - that is what he (reportedly) wanted when he tried to renew his contract mid year.  Lions balked big time, so it would be fair to say his contract is somewhat less than that.

I'm not a fan of recruiting Rockcliff but if the Club were to go down that path and it appears there are no other takers, we should be able to get him for a reasonable and fair offer to the Lions.  Rockcliff may need to take a bit of a haircut on his package as well, to fit our 'we do not pay overs' policy.

Edit:  Just saw this on Barrett's 'Trading Places'.  I know he is not always reliable but when there is no bidding competition 'bargains' can be had.

Brisbane Lions

the Lions get offered any pick under 35 for Rocky ...

... they'll take it. As it stands, no club is prepared to do that. Says a fair bit about where he's at.

the sad thing about the draft process is that the GWS will be able to continue to strip out the top players for many years to come by continuing to swapping players from the stockpile of high draft picks and continued access to their academy players. A side that finished in the finals has all of the top picks sown up once again.

Good, they can put all the development into them and after a few years we get a fit strong capable footballer for less than a 1st round pick, they cannot keep them all.

The Australian reports that two Hawks players, including Billy Hartung, are likely to join the Lions for a second-round draft pick.

When you see some of these trades you do start to wonder at the value some clubs put on players. Treloar went for 2 first rounders and Tom Mitchell for 14.

McCarthy to Freo for a loss of 4 spots in first round, plus they get back 2 extra later picks.

Makes you wonder is our 2nd rounder for Hibberd too high and are we angling for a later pick back, or simply to use next year's 2nd rounder.

Hartung is just not that great a player.

Even in one of the best midfield in the competition he still couldn't average more than 20 touches a game.

Just hit 100 pages here. To celebrate I will paste the latest trade update for the Demons as per afl site

ASHLEY BROWNE: The Demons have been lurking quietly behind the scenes. Their best work came before the trade period started when they re-signed Jesse Hogan and reportedly they made a play for Hawthorn's Jordan Lewis. Hibberd is their main item of business, but it would not surprise if they stealthily made another move or two before 2pm next Thursday.

Is there any chance of it still happening?

I keep reading that Jordan Lewis has done a backflip. Given that a perfectly executed backflip lands the person in exactly the same position as when they started, that suggests to me the Lewis is still a definite chance to come to Melbourne.

I note, however, that I am posting on the Trade Whispers thread, not a Trade Facts one, so maybe he hasn't done a backflip but just a 360...oh, wait.

Really pumped to see this Gibberd guy.

Heard he was a bit of a hybrid player in the mold of Gibbs and Hibberd mixed into one player!

Knew we must've had more in the works then just Hibbered. Now makes sence what has been in planning for the 12 months coming into this years trade period.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
