Why don't we suggest Brodie Grundy, then?  We don't have great depth in our ruck stocks so maybe we should take a look at him?

Lobbe isn't worth discussing - he wants to be a number 1 ruckman and he can't play forward.  Won't come into our calculations.

I reckon Lobbe will find a new home, RIchmond and the Dogs could use someone like that, but i think the backup ruckman with a bit more experience idea has some merit, if we lost Gawn and Spencer we'd be stretched pretty thin.

even if he didn't get a number 1 ruck gig, i doubt he'd want to be competing with Maxy for a spot.

While i don't think it'll happen, i reckon ProDee's reaction was a bit over the top, seen far worse suggestions on this thread than Lobbe.

No doubt it has merit, but why would Lobbe leave Port, where he is languishing in the reserves, to come and play for Melbourne where he would be playing the same role?  It just won't happen.  If he could play forward then it might be worth discussing, but he can't, so therefore I can't see him coming into calculations at all.

It's pretty unlikely, but so is 90% of what's suggested on this thread,

Not AFL standard and should have been replaced by now. Another List clogger who has been plain lucky to remain due to no effective alternatives being available

Lobbe is one of the Port players signed on long term way over the odds deals a la Hartlett, How much would you pay to a backup ruck?

Obviously i can't answer that because i have no idea how much he's on.

but if a player who's signed a long term deal is put up for trade it means there are most likely some sort of issues there, or the clubs salary cap is very tight, so i'm not sure they can move him on without being willing to pay some of his salary.

the big question is if another club thinks he's good enough to be their number 1 ruckman.

Not related to us, but few posts on Facebook about Bryce Gibbs being interested in a move back to Adelaide.

According to ESPN Australia, Carlton midfielder Bryce Gibbs is reportedly interested in a move back home to Adelaide.

It is believed that Gibbs' management have been holding discussions with the Adelaide Football Club about a possible move to South Australia.

Although, it should be noted - Gibbs has three years left to run on his current contract. Therefore, the only way to get to the Crows would be via trade.

If Jeff Garlett blamed his lack of form on his team mates lack of good ball movement into the forward line and coaches for asking him to step out of a forward pocket and play different roles when the season was basically over to a supporter/club member, he should be seriously line managed.

Im not saying all Saty's post are not worthy, but his bias and need to champion every player by backing it up with a 'quote' from players who know to give supporters 'the party line quotes/conversations' is over stating his knowledge.

I didn't say the above, I said Jeff had a role on the wing as well as forward   he didn't blame anybody for his dip in form, I suggest if you are goihg to continue to read my posts, you read them all,and not misquote to make a point

I also said the service into the forwards was poor, nobody else, my opinion but if you watched the last two games live, even my favourite drovers dog would have seen that

I don't champion players, I just get a bit bored with posters saying ridiculous comments like Jeff signed his contract extension and then lost interest

I also loathe the denigration of players by some of the 'couldabeens' on this site, reminds me of the piece of modern art, it was black letters on a white background

It said ' I could do better than that!'

            ' yes, but you didn't '

While I'm not sure how much it means in modern footy, Gibbs' management have quickly come out and rubbished those rumours.

It seems he is being linked to Adelaide each year these days, and while he would slot in superbly in their midfield, I can't see it happening now.  Not to mention how much it would cost to get it done, and the big contract he has as well.

What was mentioned about Lobbe?

Not much - he wants to come back to Victoria so he can potentially be the number 1 ruckman of a side (like Richmond, for example).  No chance I would have thought of him playing for us.

Yeah, i would say it'd be extremely unlikely, just thought i'd pop it on here anyways, he'd be a great fit for the Crows if they could somehow get the deal done.

Absolutely.  He and Sloane would be an excellent 1-2 punch with Tex, Eddie and Jenkins up forward.

But as you say, it's extremely unlikely and Carlton hold all the cards in terms of a trade.

This type of player is always inconsistent, with very few exceptions. They all go through a run of games when they don't do much and can't get near it, but they'll also have some great games where they seem to have the ball on a string and bob up everywhere.

not interested in them having some great games.

I want them to be responsible when they do not have the footy, to chase, & to hog tie the opponent with the footy.  Inferred pressure will not work in Grand Finals.  Bring them down, or don't play for us.   No pretenders.

If we are to have quick small forwards, they have to be physical, or they can bugger off elsewhere & play for another club.

Moore likely Eddie has had a nightmare image of his pension cheque, & is pushing this fast tracked barrow designed to save both their bacons.

I'd imagine Boomer would have been offered a regular thursday and sunday footy show gig, media access in radio and probably discounted advertising for his supplement energy drink business, as salary cap evading side-deals. He's been having 1 on 1 interviews with Barrett on the footy show, so it's no surprise he'd end up there.

Pavlich was linked to return back to Adelaide every time he was coming out of contract which never happened.

I think Bryce is quite happy in Melbourne.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
