What type of player is Lamb?

No one knows.

Utility size and with the skills to play anywhere. Elite runner. Yet apparently a lazy player on the ground.

Seems like a kid who just dominated junior footy but there were even questions in his under 18 year as to what type of player he'd be and those have continued at West Coast.

At this stage I'd say he'd only have limited currency.

I'll admit i played Junior football with Tom and attitude is an issue, he's a cocky guy who hasn't appreciated just how hard you have to work, thought it would just happen for him and he doesn't need help. I believe he has the ability to make it at AFL level, but will need a strong club with strong leadership to do so.

Apparently so was Tom Lynch in his young days, arrogant & cocky, ahead of himself. The AFL is a hard task master.  Some learn slowly & the hard way.

I wouldn't think so. Talk is the can't fit him in the cap, and Darling leaving surely wouldn't free up enough cash

There will be more to it than that.  Clubs don't let key people walk.  Maybe he is not pro enough?

If this rumour turns out to be true, and I'm skeptical about it at the moment, it seems to be an odd move from an Eagles perspective.  He might have had an inconsistent season, but Kennedy is approaching 30 and they don't have a great deal else in terms of key forwards coming through the ranks.

Obviously this rumour would also make some Dees fans nervous, as the Eagles being willing to entertain trade offers for Darling might suggest they believe they are in the box seat to lure Hogan west.

Maybe they have one, on the line?  just sayin?

So besides Hibberd is there anyone else we are actually chasing? This time last year the Bugg Kennedy and Melksham names were all starting to leak out.

Will the Riddler return to this thread? I liked the cut of that guy's jib.

I know it might be frustrating to some, but I love how our FD rarely/if ever leaks info on who we're chasing. It means trade week is all that more interesting. ;)

No, I'd prefer it if top liners nominated us now as their club of choice. Trade negotiations start mid year not in trade week.

and what do you suggest we trade for these top liners? we don't have a first round pick and our second rounder is locked in another deal, and if we trade next years first rounder we could go two seasons without a first round pick which is not ideal either.

Nothing if they're a FA.

But what's the point of saying you love how the FD rarely leaks who we're are chasing when in reality, we're probably not chasing anyone of note other than crumbs like we got last year.

And BTW, most clubs target a player first, then find a way to get the deal done. Who in their right mind could have thought that Geelong could get Dangerfield, Henderson, S.Selwood and Z.Smith in one trade period. And most are questioning how Hawthorn will be able to get O'Meara, Mitchell and Vickery in this year. They'll find a way. The hard part is trying to get the player to commit.

Who says we aren't chasing anyone? you're just making an assumption because nothing has been leaked.

which free agent are you hoping we land? Daniel Wells? Chris Mayne?

the difference again is that they have draft picks to trade, we don't.

Yep, we did nothing last year.

Just picked up a couple of crumbs like Oliver and Weideman.

Only one good player in the Cats lot, didn't get them to a GF and now they have to make the hard call and go for a mini rebuild. House of cards built on an old list.

...and the Hawks. O'Meara, who knows if he will come up, Mitchell not good enough to cover for his namesake when the inevitable comes. Vickery??? what a great catch he will be.

You do understand the difference between trading and drafting in players? Bugg, BenKen and Melksham were crumbs and are never going to make a massive difference to our list.

I stand by my point that the reason why the FD doesn't leak is because there is nothing to leak. And we've known about Hibberd for quite some time. Who leaked that?

we haven't leaked hardly anything since Roos took over, unless we've wanted it leaked.

Because it means if we get burnt by offering someone a contract they're not interested in and letting the initial interest leak out, it means any external appeal is tarnished.

And given what Mahoney and co pulled off last year during trade week, I'm expecting some out of the box thinking to improve our list. That's exciting.

Yes, but obviously you don't seem to understand it.

We traded picks to improve our draft position. We either did that or traded directly for players...I thought our strategy was pretty good.

It doesn't leak not because it there is nothing to leak but because this time of the year everything is so fluid. All clubs are asking all sorts of players/managers what they want to do and if if they are interested in coming to their club then add to that the penchant of clubs to float the possibility of players being traded out who aren't expecting it.

I am happy that are club doesn't leak or would you prefer to be Richmond who let everyone know last trade period that Treloar was signed, sealed and delivered ?

Released North Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie has confirmed his interest in a move to West Coast, but he doesn't expect to know his future for another few weeks.

Edit:- Looks like lots of forwards going west. Like Shane Kersten, I wonder if Mitch Clark will finally go home too.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
