Looking at that 22 just above makes me realise we are unlikely to bring in so many.

I'm tipping Myers only if we don't get Vince, and not Lyons, then Cross as a FA.

Meaning we only bring in 2 players through trade, unless we trade pick 2 for a Shiel calibre player.

Yes, I think that's a more realistic scenario. And one I'd still be stoked with.

Yep manager is Lucas who stated that he more likely to stay, but I sensed he was just playing a litle bit of hardball on behalf of Adelaide (being a contracted player I'd suggest this is in Lucus' best interest). However I think he, like Adelaide is looking for a little more. Adelaide wanting a better pick and his client wanting a little more cash to jump ship. I think Lyons wants to come but is holding out for us to increase our offer. I think when we have a clearer idea of our compo for Slyvia we will be able to solidify our offers to players like Lyons.

I didn't read it as sinister.

I saw it more as Lyons being contracted is happy to stay in Adelaide. Adelaide are happy to keep him. Both have the potential to move but it would take a good offer to both and in-particular Adelaide for it to happen.

Apparently Lyons manger said he is most likely to stay in Adelaide?

As above, Lucas said he's very happy in Adelaide and he has a decision to make. He didn't really swing one way or the other on whether he thought Lyons would go. It really is a matter of staying with people he likes or getting more gametime for him I think. I don't think there's much doubt that he will see more senior matches with us than Adelaide.

You're right, he played it pretty straight, I just read a little subtext into the: He's happy, not going anywhere brush off. Time will tell.

Dear Jarryd

A 3 year deal for $800,000 is offered by the Melbourne Football Club. You will be a key part of our future success, with a role in our emerging midfield available for you. You have developed at Adelaide and Melbourne sees a great opportunity for you. It will be an exciting time for the Melbourne Football Club.

Peter Jackson

(Lyons is still contracted and may stay...but we will knock again if we have to in 2015 ...)

266k a year... Not superstar cash but I'd snap it up in a heart beat!!

I think if Lyons comes to us, it may spell curtains for any chances Cross would have.

If we get Vince I don't think we need Cross.

How so? I think we need to try and cram as many AFL standard mids on to our list as possible. If we grab Lyons as well as all the other things going on then it becomes logistically difficult to get Cross on the list, but that's very different to not needing him at all.

Because you need that balance of player development and getting players in for the now. Cross offers 1 year tops, he comes from a crap club and played most of this season at VFL level.

Can you ever have too many players capable of playing mid-field?

For years we have struggled in this area. It would be great if our mid-fielders had to compete for places in the 22 and not be grafted games because we have no one better.

correct 3 years for $800k being $266k per season ... reasonable offer IMO

My apologies I saw $800,000 and forgot the 3 years.

$266,000 is hardly special - as long as it makes us his preferred club.

Between Lyons and Michie we would have a couple of handy clearance players if the youtube clips of both are any indication.

If you dont think Cross is AFL standard anymore then that's the reason not to go for him

Lyons apparently likely to stay a Crow...so the whispers say ..lol

Sylvia compo (Pick 24) to Freo in exchange for Michie & their 2nd round Pick (37).

Tapscott, Pick 37 & our 3rd Round Pick (40) to Adelaide in exchange for Vince, Lyons & their 3rd Round Pick (46)

Melbourne: Gain Michie, Vince, Lyons, Pick 46

Loose Tapscott, Pick 24 & 40

Fremantle: Gain Pick 24

Loose Michie & Pick 37

Adelaide: Gain Tapscott, Pick 37 & 40

Loose Vince, Lyons & Pick 46

Don't think anyone really looses out of that. Potentially Adelaide, but hard to call it a loss.

dees gain mightily though I would suggest

Should we have another crack at this kid again come years end?

Crow fans think he hss been unfairly treated. Been made the sub a fair few times this year.

Inside ball winner who has been impressive when I have watched him this year?

What we think doesn't really matter. Roosy is in charge and he'll make these types of decisions and that's good enough for me.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
