I don't think he's any quicker (leg speed) than Kent, Harmes, JHK or BenKen, plus from what I've seen he's no where near as quick (decision making) as Salem, Stretch or other mids such as Vince, Tyson, or Lewis who could be pushed to the outside at various times. 

I just can't see him offering anything to the club besides back up in case we get multiple injuries and even then he'll be a very long way down the pecking order. He's not new to the system so will command more $ than a draftee so I'd be happier if the club used a spot he could take on a kid.

Fair enough, hard to argue with that bit.

For the record though, I'd have to strongly disagree that Salem, Vince, Tyson and Lewis have any speed worth mentioning. The fact that you've talked about them as outside players tells me how much we need more speed in the midfield.

I agree their leg speed is not brilliant, it's their decision making which gives them speed. A handball to a player in space or a quick kick to an open player is much faster than given credit for. In reality only a small handful of guys on any team have blistering pace, we've got that with Hunt, but its the link up play which makes teams look quick or slow and I believe we'll seem much quicker this year with a bit more experience and players knowing each others games.

Has some things that would be handy for us, mostly speed, and the whole point of the rookie list is to take a chance right? I'd rather take a gamble with someone like Green than have another vanilla footballer like Michie.

You dismissing "Vanilla" Michie, but advocating "Gamble" Green is laughable, and shows how little you consider other opinions.

FWIW, I'm sure at the time we thought we were taking a chance/gamble with Michie.  It just didn't pay off.  Unlike Jetta who, similar to Michie, we delisted then rookie-listed, however it did pay off.

You take relatively known quantities in the draft, especially in the first and second rounds. Kids with solid U18 performance.

You take "speculative kids" with late picks, or rookie picks.

Stuart, let me get this right.  You believe that the draft is only for speculative kids, and that the rookie draft is not?

So if we were to upgrade both of Wagner and Smith, taking 1 live pick in to this year's draft, you want to replace them on the rookie list with someone like Josh Green?

Not sure if he's a good fit for us, but i think he'll find a home, that small pressure forward is getting to be one of the more important positions on the ground, not sure of Greens quality in this area but he certainly has the tools to play that role

I agree, someone will give him a rookie spot.

He has some talent but as many have pointed out, his workrate and fitness is not AFL standard. I wouldn't be against us giving him a go on the RL and seeing what Brendan McCartney, Matthew Egan and Simon Goodwin can do with him.

But I think Garlett is very similar to Green as a deep forward, and Kent does a job of being the hard leading quick guy around half forward. Ben Kennedy can provide a little of both as depth. 

Right now I'd rather draft a young kid who can be developed in to something better than take a shot on Green. I don't want us going down the reject path and ending up like Richmond.

exactly, i think we've moved past this in our development as a side as well, i think now our recruitment will be based far more on needs rather than re-building the list so we won't be taking to many chances on areas we have reasonable stocks in.

having said that i think Green is okay and someone like Richmond might give him a spot

Lol now you're really reaching to try and have a crack at me "Billy". I did not say that champ.

The key words are "kids" and "promise", not "speculative", and the actual phrase was "speculative kids showing promise". Don't try and remix what I said.

We will likely have 3 rookie spots available, we desperately need speed, now if you want to take more vanilla plodders who have shown they're going nowhere, like Michie, good for you, I see the rookie list as an opportunity to try some things, bit like Smith or Jetta, you obviously see it as a holding pen for average footballers with no particular assets.

Absolutely we do, but i am not sure Green is much more than a forward, which where others have pointed out we're okay for pace with Garlett, Kent and so on adding plenty in that area.

I guess I see Green as slightly different to Garlett from a potential position side of things. I feel like he could play higher up the ground more often than Garlett.

24 years old, captained his U18 state team and lead the Lions goalkicking in 2014.

I'd back our culture to be better than Brisbane's, and I don't think there's anything wrong with Garlett having a bit of competition for his spot, especially seeing Kennedy doesn't really look like providing that.
