Media coverage seems to suggest the proposed new Board is underwhelming. Would have thought that would align perfectly with the playing list and coaching staff thereby finally giving Richmond members the unity and synergy they pray for.

It also highlights how quickly things change. From finals contender one year, when everyone was talking them up and the start of the season when Tigers supporters were again looking to the season with optimism and another finals appearance. They may have been overrated and the seeds of their demise may have been seen from their list, their coaches, whatever, but not many predicted such an implosion.

Its a lesson that tells us that success can sometimes be fleeting and footy supporters should not get ahead of themselves. The optimism at MFC will quickly be wiped if we have a poor year under Goodwin. Injuries, players not living up to expectations, can quickly destroy a season. And when that happens things turn pear shaped.

For all those getting a vicarious pleasure out of watching the Tigers problems, be careful what you wish for. And don't forget where Melbourne has come from. We are still a long way from getting out of the woods ourselves.

44% of teams play finals - almost half.

Supporters need to stop thinking of finals as some sort of successful benchmark.  Richmond proves it isn't.

That said, I have no doubt that when we eventually get there, whether it be 2017 or 18, we'll be on the type of incline that will at least lead to a prelim.

I have no Sympathy for the Tigers at all.

After their loss to Carlscum in the 2013 finals that was when the Dumb Bastards should have realized it wasn't going to get better. Carlscum didn't even make the 8

But Runt Road did nothing and recruited the bare minimum

They were arrogant and stupid and now it has exploded

Entertainment....

Losers mentality Pro or just realistic given a long period of hopes and dreams and disappointments?

OD is not on the current playing list so you can hardly call him a loser. He is a long time supporter like the rest of us who desperately want success before we die. We are prepared to concede that it is possible we will not win a flag.  Of course we want a flag but if we don't we want success.

Talking about winners and losers as if there is no in between is the dumb bit.

You call an athlete that makes an Olympic final or wins a silver or bronze medal a loser?

I don't think your dumb but seriously if this is your proposition I will have to reconsider.

Irony.

Your analogy of silver or bronze in the Olympics is silly.  Being the second or third best in the world in no way equates to making the eight in AFL.

I agree that success "can" be relative, but merely graduating to finals is fool's gold.  We played finals in 6 of Daniher's 10 years and if you think that in any way equated to success then we read from a different handbook.

In our relatively small national competition the only real success is a premiership.

That's "Sliding Doors" Adolf. He sold a few paintings in his youth and never went to jail, never wrote his manifesto, and never got into politics.

But he still had an urge to wreak havoc. Hence "Focus on Footy".

Well Pro if your only measure of success is a flag, does that mean that we have a team of losers and that we support a bunch of losers and indeed we supporters are losers. Sorry we do have a different handbook.

There are degrees of everything, but the only real success in the AFL is a premiership.  Pretty self-explanatory I would have thought.

If you want to label those who fall short of that mark "a bunch of losers" that's up to you.

Richmond must be prepared to offer Prestia $800k a year for 5 years to get him to that rabble.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
