Seriously? Watts is arguably the best kick in the league.

He is a great kick, but prefer him being on the end of the final chain of disposal.. He is a great field kick, but we need guys using it off half back and through the middle. We have very few.

Haven't seen Petracca play?

Yes I have.. ... ... And?

I could scroll through report of numerous posts calling for him to be dropped during the year for poor disposal.. He is a fine player in the making, but not convinced he is a great kick.. yet.

You need to go to more games then. Sensational field kick.

I'd be tempted to swap our 2017 1st rounder with GC/GWS for one of their 2016 first round picks, then couple that up with ANB (if needed) for Hartlett.

That way we could bring in both Hibberd and Hartlett, both very good kicks (and tough & physical to boot).

It looks like we're backing our current crop of young KPD's in, sign up Hoges and our KPF's are set, get a couple of good kicking smalls (Hartlett & Hibberd), then all we need is to bring in another Ruck/Forward and our list would be just about set to have a tilt in a couple of years.

Wouldn't you need to package a player like Garland or Michie with the 2017 first rounder to GC/GWS for that low first round pick. What's the incentive for them to pick swap?

They'd need to give something else up.

Harlett is not worth Pick 6, he's worth a mid to late 1st Rounder.  That's why I said if we were to trade our 2017 1st Round Pick for a 2016 Pick it would need to be for a 1st Rounder plus something else.

For example our 2017 1st Round Pick goes to GWS for Pick 17 (they currently have from Geelong) & Hoskin-Elliott.

We then trade 17 & Nibbler to Port for Harlett.

If you're offering Garland or Michie they may well still ask what the incentive is...

That's the equivalent of trading pick 17 to Port.  Neal-Bullen has zero value in a trade.

I first saw Hartlett live when he was 17 in the junior championships at Casey Fields.  Boy he looked smooth.  The quintessential midfielder.  He can kick goals from 60 on the run with ease.

But something isn't right.  He doesn't get a lot of disposals and just seems to lack consistency.  He should be at the peak of his powers and be the last person Port would trade.

I'd love him though.   Can't see us being in on this unfortunately.

Helps if I read the article.

And that is why, ladies and gents, I try to avoid making trade suggestions. :P

The incentive is that next year's draft is meant to be of much higher quality than this year's one.

I rate Hartlett and would love him to come across but it has to be at the right price.

Those questioning him and saying things just aren't right could do well to remember Bernie Vince before he joined us.

Similar pre-trade impressions I would have thought but Bernie has actually kicked on and become better player since joining us.

I definitely could see that happening with Hartlett.

Seriously? Petracca has freakish talent with his vision and can spear the ball and kick with great penetration, but he's far from a good kick and no where close to Watts or someone like Hartlett.

Petracca drops the ball from too high and thumps it using his burly frame, it doesn't compare to someone like Hartlett (or Watts or Salem) who have pure kicking actions.

He needs a big preseason working on his kicking technique and composure to improve his disposal. And his set shot kicking is atrocious, his action doesn't stand up under pressure.

Posted

He had a poor pre-season and struggled for fitness all season. His past 3-4 years before that were very good. He would give us more depth and class to our midfield, and is also flexible to rotate through half back if needed. We need better kicks and he fits the bill. He can kick it 60 metres accurately! His leg is a cannon! We also need more players in his age bracket with experience to balance out the youngsters we have. If the price isn't too high, and it shouldn't be due to his injuries this year, he is an ideal target. 2nd round pick and sweetener, or 2017 first round pick for him and maybe a sweetener to us.

He's a good target for us. Go get him Dees!

I knew that would come up! But Juddy was tearing it up in his first, second, third, fourth and fifth years...Freak.

Vote no to Hamish.

I would be wary of anyone from Port who have been there through the down period/resurrection/down again period.

We need good leadership but what Port have shown is their leadership is very flakey.

We need strong leaders to help Jones & Vince around this age group just not from a flakey culture like Ports...

It is really, really weird to be discussing potential trade targets and we're asking 'are we sure we need that type of player'?

Five years, I say, five years of "get any good player we can, dammit!".

I'm calling this moment, where we are discussing if Hartlett is needed, an 'increment' mark on our way to being a serious club.

I really rate this bloke, his best would put him in our top 5 players. His kicking is line breaking, and he is a seriously big bodied midfielder. But is he what we need for the price being asked? I can't see us wanting to give anything near that Port might be asking.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits. Thankfully, the offseason has recharged me, and I’m back—ready t
