Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Delighted for Jack and delighted that our great Club has done the right thing by him.  We've come a long, long way as a club since Junior McDonald was pushed out the door.

Good point about the negatives that followed Junior's poorly handled "retirement".  Certain contributed to the poisoning of an already struggling club and we are just getting over it now.

I wonder if the goings on at Norf will have a similar poisoning effect - one can but hope.

FCS he doesn't need to "replace" anyone.   He may, hopefully, or may not earn a position in the team as others form may slump or, God forbid, we get our usual spate of injury.

Part of the list from which to chose.

I've always wished success for Trenners, I think he is a great guy, a great leader and a footballer with a higher ceiling than we've seen, but it looks like I've got another reason to cheer him on.

So with Trenners inking a new deal, that's three Jacks, (and two Macs), a Jake, a James and a Jayden, and a Jeffy and a Jetta re-signed for the year. Seriously, it's time to step up Jesse. And maybe we can snag a post-season Jaeger to add to that mix?

I don't mind the re-signing of Trengove, but the club need to help him find a yard (pace). The injury is the benefit of the doubt. Now the club has a pre-season to quicken him up. Will be disappointing if we cannot add some extra pace to his game. Different player to Luke Hodge - who never had speed, and can kick off of a dime. Trengove takes a little longer to get set (to kick). That is why it is essential IMO that he finds some pace. I still think he can make it, and I don't believe we have seen the best of him yet.

This is essentially just clever list management.

1st - as to who is he going to replace: well he obviously is seen as still having the potential to still make it in the AFL, but importanty moreso than a late draft pick (80+).

2nd - a draft pick ties the club to them for 2 years, not the 1 year we are committed to withJT

3rd - a draft pick requires more individual development (resources) which now should be focuesd on team development and finals football. We are entering a new stage of the premiership clock. He could actually contribute the other way with assisting player development

4th - if he play poorly and languishes in Casey, then unlike the late draft pick who is just as likely to struggle to make Casey 1sts, we can move him on after a year. We win.

5th - if he plays ok, but not star,  then that will improve his trade value, which due to his injury history is currently next to nothing. We win.

6th - if he improves to starting 18 (which is only probably 3-6 rungs up the pecking order) then We win

Also Sam Mitchell has never been quick, and does not have a deep penetrating kick, but he seems to go ok.

Note, its easier to teach someone how to increase their speed and endurance, than footy smarts!

Clearly you have no insights into list management and the fact that every place on an AFL list is like winning Tatts!

Ok, the club has seen fit to give him another contract! In my mind it is a very questionable decision! Tell you what let's revisit this time next year and evaluate the sucess or not of this! Tell you what, if this is a success I'll not post here again EVER!

It's been one day since he signed, I deem it to be a success to date.... See ya later!

Clearly pickett does have good insight into list management however.

Unlike Wiseblood, Mahoney, Goodwin, Taylor & Todd Viney.

When can we get those hacks out and Pickett in????

It's hard to know if Jack had any lingering psychological issues with his foot this year.   It's possible that he was still protecting it without being fully cognisant he was doing so.  A full preseason, his first in 5-6 years, is deserved.  I don't think he needs to find much pace to be the footballer we crave.  If he can get full confidence and increased strength in his take off lever (foot) it just might make the small difference required.  We're only talking fractions here, even though some may think it's quantum.

It's also not insignificant that Jack is a former captain and one of the most popular players at the club.  From where the club has been the culture and fabric looms large.

As for Picket's question about what position he'll play or who he'll supplant, it's not as profound as he thinks.  If he's good enough he'll create a spot, if he's not he won't.  None of us would have had Hunt in the team this time last year.  Now he's a staple running off half-back.  Creating a position or role is what the preseason and practice games is all about.

If Jack can become that bit lighter on his feet I can see him in a Vince, Bartel or Jarrad McVeigh type role, where one minute you're a mainstay in defence cutting off a mark, the next bobbing up with a crucial mark 30 out, or shutting down the opposition's best mid.  Trengove has the versatility to be a utility.  None of Vince, Bartel or McVeigh are quick, but their first movement is better than what Jack has recently shown.  Can Jack get those first 3 metres back?

For the sake of one position on the list and one full preseason it's hard to fathom why anyone thinks it's not worth the punt.  Even if you do think success unlikely.

Very pleased to see Trenners retained. He has been blitzing it at Casey this year and it would be great if he can cement a spot with the Dees in 2017 (after a full pre-season)! In an ideal scenario, he finishes ahead of $cully in next year's Brownlow count!

There have been a few this year blitzing it out at Casey but I'm not sure all that many of them will be back for us in 2017.

Picket, you amuse me to mo end. :)

But in this case I will disagree.  Look at players who don't have a pre season, they look slow then build into it.

Trenners hasn't had one in multiple years. It's a one year deal prob worth sod all. I think of he gets through this preseason with no troubles he will have improved speed. But, I also think it will take two full preseasons to tell if he had lost pace or not for good.

The club will get him to work on his burst speed, but I see trenners playing high forward into the midfield where his smarts and endurance will help him work opponents over.  Think Bartel style game from years ago.

Has anyone ever thought that Trengove is the sort of person that would know himself if he thought he could or couldn't make a successful next Twelve Months. It is not as if he didn't have any other alternatives.

We can't delist every player who has failed to cement a spot in the starting 22. Trenners was a former number 2 draft pick who was very good at the beginning of his career. He's coming off an injury that may have been career ending and had little to no pre-season. Giving Trenners another full pre-season and the opportunity to build his tank, get some confidence in his foot and hopefully pick up some speed is fantastic, the upside if it works out far outweighs any downside.

Why?? Why a Troll??? Because I have a very valid opinion??

People like you are the reason that this club still is without a premiership 50 years down the track!

A PART TIME SPRINT COACH?? YOU ARE IN NODDY LAND! You can't develop pace< especially when you were never quick to start with!

Sentiment? Bah I repeat whose spot will he take??

Time to take a hard nosed approach to this footy club! Clayton Oliver gets dropped just so he can play at Casey?? Cmon

He should be in the team

WE NEED HIS UNCOMPRIMISING ATTACK ON THE FOOTY!

Cmon lighweight!

Whose place will Jack Tengove replace in 2017??

Anyone in the midfield, forward line or half backs who have injuries.   You know......Like hamstrings, knees, ect ect ect

Much better to have an experienced player who can come in than a untried 18 year old.

Just a note on sprint coaching:

If I remember correctly, Kevin Dyson when he joined Melbourne was quite slow (slower than Trengove) but was helped enormously by a sprint coach.

With proper training Trengove would definitely improve by a yard or two, certainly enough to aid his on field competitiveness.

Oh Ok so now he was signed for Depth eh?? Ok I understand perfectly now! Jack Trengove is in the 30-35 Core of Depth??

Still does not cut it for me!

Might be a good bloke and all but good blokes aren't going to get uis to a premiership!

Just to remind me again, how many games did he play this year??

And he is expected to improve and keep pace with a quickening game??

He was ready to go to Punt Rd was it??

Cheezus no wonder we haven't  won any  Premierships in 50 years!

He is clearly being given one year to try and make it again.

Also I think Grimes will walk and it would have been a bad PR move to see both young captains leave in the same year.

He was a very talented player who was cruelled by injury and giving him one year to see if he can get back to his best, won't hurt the club. The players will welcome the loyalty shown by the club and it may well help us from a morale point of view as well.

If he makes it back we have a bonus.

A move that I thought would be made and I'm happy about it.

Trenners has had this year to get back to 'playing' and seeing how the foot would hold up.

The next step will be to really try and develop some power in his legs and glutes.

I still love him and I'm holding hope that in the off-season, he can really improve in those areas.

I'm a big one for opportunity and giving the chance for people to prove themselves.

Trenners has put up with a LOT of poo in his time at the club and 3 games after no pre season this year seems incredibly harsh when wanting to delist someone.

I think the deal is about right. Let him do a full pre season. If he can get back into our best 22 (though it is debatable if he will ever be the player he could have been before the injury) then that is a bonus for us.

Regardless, Trenners beating the odds and getting back AT ALL is bloody inspiring and nearly made me tear up when I saw the announcement.

Picket Fence You are obsessed with pace.  Not sure if you noticed but some of the best players going round are not at all quick.  Its more about quick hands, peripheral vision & ball use & BTW if you can tackle well that is handy as well.

Glad to see almost everyone disagrees with you about JT.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
