Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD

I thought we might have been better giving match time to one of the younger guys this season, not because Hibbo wasn't up to it, but because it was more important for them to be playing in the seniors and that we have such an abundance of backline depth, that Hibbo wouldn't have been required.  How wrong was I.

One -- two week injuries to May, Lever, a promising looking Turner and our backline and team in general was looking alot less than solid and stable through the middle portion of the season.  Enter the Pig Dog, who has been bloody brilliant and solid as a rock.  Critical part of our defence right now, is an absolute lock through our finals campaign and gets a gig for next year and however long he wants.  He's actually getting faster you know.

Like most I expected that Hibberd would be forced out by the Casey youngsters this year but how wrong can one be.

Does he and possibly Melksham go around again in 2023?

mea culpa - I too thought that Hibbo, and Melksham for that matter, would maybe pick top a few games in 2022 then fade quietly away.

Q: does one usually have tomato sauce with humble pie, or is it best even straight?

The Pig, my favourite Grand Final story.

To want to play at our club and the year he had, there's no one more deserving of being a premiership player.

Love this bloke

Just love his versatility, seems to intimidate the smalls with his strength and is a perfect second man up helping May/Petty. The one two with May then kick long on Friday was classic Hibberd.

I remember seeing him play for us at the G early on. His left foot was elite, still is.

Hibberd is a bit of a genetic freak. Build like Dustin Martin, leg speed of someone much younger and lighter, and reads the ball and play so well.

The sight of him grabbing the premiership cup and bolting to the crowd will make me smile till my time on earth is done. Great memory

Thanks for the reminder of this.

The best vision apart from the cup being held up of the entire post match coverage.

Thoroughly deserved by Hibberd to have what will be eternal vision of great Dees moments when played in the future.

Oh, and 2022, Cameron  - 2 games  - No goals -  wasn't bad this year either.

Great story after the Bombers debacle. Really glad he came over to the MFC.

Last year’s Premiership was such a relief and such joy. Hibbo’s run was how we all felt   👏👏👏

Probably like others, saw 2022 as the last run for Hibbo and the Milkshake. But in the last few weeks, they’ve been key parts of our team.

I watched Hibbo closely last week on Cameron.  He stood close enough to guard Cameron and the leading space.  It’s something to teach young defenders.  But he actually showed good speed at the contest too.  He had two passages of excellent run and carry, to bring the ball out of defence.  Definitely was one of our best.

Game 99 for us in QF.

Qualifies for future father/son next game.

Melk needs another 7 games, so next year would probably qualify.

The QF next week is definitely his 100th game as a Demon.

He’s played 183 games thus far. 84 with the unhinged hot mess that is Essendon and 99 with the greatest football club in the world that is Melbourne.

Against the advice of family, friends and team mates he left Essendon.

MH : Coming to Melbourne was the best decision I have made in my life.

Thankyou.

No I just looked at AFL tables, so could be wrong. Happy for him, after I retired him last year after the flag.

Only long-term injury stopping him going round again. A competitive beast, and pure AFL standard. I watched him play Casey v Swans earlier this year as his warm-up to seniors return, and he played what can only be called a perfect game. Won EVERY contest, and delivered to teammates in open space downfield. It was a memorable example of the level difference between AFL and VFL. As an aside, Disco Turner was very close behind him, and watching his Casey game yesterday, the boy’s gonna be very very good when he gets his next chance.

I wrote him off too but he has been very good for us this season.  Having said that I wouldn't offer him another year.  He has shown signs of panic this year on field which is a sign that the end is approaching.  Lewis and Yze are two that struggled when they went too long.  He's also had calf issues which as we know is an "old man's" issue.  So at best he's got a year in him I reckon.

But more than that we have two young kids at Casey in Bowser and Rivers, who will be long term players for us, and Hibbo is keeping one of them out.  I don't want to be like Geelong who lost Jordan Clark because they "couldn't fit him in".

I accept I'm probably in the small minority here, but I think saying farewell half a season too early is better than keeping him perhaps one season too much.  He's been a fantastic player for us whenever he leave will be fondly remembered.

Agree and I am in your small minority.

Hibbo could still be a great playing mentor at Casey for a couple of years, leading into a Casey Assistant role.

He deserves another year if he wants it, if he’s in front of Bowey & Rivers in 2023 so be it, nothing wrong with healthy competition.

Age shouldnt come into it if you’re still performing your role, just ask James McDonald

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
