Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Surprisingly realistic talk about the Hibberd trade on 'Blitz.

Unexpected.

Damn that site is hard on the eyes.

The beauty of recruiting someone like Hibberd is the knock on effect - you can take the short, simplistic view that we've just gained another 'half back flanker'.  We know that Hibberd is a very good half back flanker, for a start, and it gives us more options.  With his recruitment, it can allow other guys like Hunt and Salem to play further up the field and use their weapons (kicking and speed respectively) where it can be more damaging than before.

Hibberd is terrific one on one, is a very good kick and is cool under pressure.  Not to mention he brings further experience to our backline, something we are still short of.

But feel free to be underwhelmed.  Some supporters are never happy.

Bang bang and bang, the real keys to hibb are hopefully those 3. Our current flankers are not great 1-1 but keeping the skill level up with that trait could be massive for us. Then as you say release a Salem up the ground. We saw at VFL level some of his kicks hitting leading fwds from the wing on the weekend, before the grass took it revenge on his brain.

I reckon Melksham is more likely to play a bit of mid/wing, but that's just my opinion. Plus, having him allows someone like Salem or Hunt to play further up.

I don't disagree, but having all of them rotating might give each a bit more impact when they go in

Good to know the condescending crap written about Melbourne hasn't dried up just yet. Not many (if any) other clubs would have an article purely trying to make sense of why a player wants to go there.

Take a breath.

Melbourne is a destination club.

At least that’s Michael Hibberd’s perspective as the defender seeks to join the Demons ahead of the 2017 season.

Translation:

Preapre yourself for something shocking.

Players actually want to go to Melbourne.

I know right? At least that's what Hibberd reckons. Lol good luck Michael.

Not what we need we have halfback flankers to burn

Outside mid backup ruck /Forward thats what we need Why buy two halfbacks?

Well, Salem will move into the midfield next season you would hope.  Jayden Hunt eventually too.

Lumumba and Grimes are finished.

Dodoro said on Trade Radio today that he thought our pick 26 was fair for Hibberd. So expect this deal to be done first thing Monday morning.

Hibberd can get stuck into pre pre-season training straight away under the guidance of MIsso.

Hibberd > Melksham

Pretty happy with this. We paid overs last year and unders this year.

Both are best 22 and I think Hibberd will be close to top 12 for us for the next couple of years. At his age he is effectively a very good quality upgrade on Matt Jones.  Make our list run much deeper.

Agree. As you say both the Melk and Hibberd strenthen our list consdierabley. Perhaps not at the top end but as is often said it it is about a club's bottom 6 as much as their top six. Which is one reason i think the Hawks fell away in the last part of the season amd will likley struggle next yeay (i hope).

They also really help the age profile of the list giving us a couple more quality mid twenty players (with 100 odd AFL games and 7-8 pre seasons under their bel) to help even out the list.

Not sure it's unders for a guy who's nearly 27, had a year out of the game, has only played 80 games and has had a few injuries. I think it's more than fair given 100 solid games is really the maximum we can get from Hibberd. That's higher than the return on most pick 26'ers who have to develop and could easily flop but it's also a risk of giving up the 1 in 10 or so shot of getting an A grader around that mark.

Hibberd will be a great get for two reasons,

1. he's exactly what we need off half back, elite skills, elite decision making, great one on one and experienced.

2. he'll enable Salem and Hunt to spend more time on the wing where they can really do some damage.

Just heard that too. Interesting that rob KERR head of footy department was on SEN this morning and didn't seem to think that 26 alone was enough and that a deal was a little way off. They need to get themselves on the same page at the bombres

I have a sinking feeling we will cave and swap a 3rd rounder for their 4th rounder as part of the deal :(. But hopefully 2nd rounder alone is enough.

To those who know Hibberd better than I... will we be looking for him to play as a third tall/intercept marker or as a mid-small defender off halfback?

To which role is he better suited??

Both.

I'd say that he will play as that sweeping player across the pack when the ball comes inside defensive 50, then run and kick the ball off half-back.

similar role to Matty Boyd or Corey Enright, backline general who uses the ball well, reads it well and sets up our attacks from the back half.

he's a bloody good defender but capable of doing real damage the other way as well

I'd get it done and be thankful they don't ask for more with that pick continuing to slide. Dee's now need to get creative to get back into the earlier stages of the draft

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
